History: Hatori was born into a long line of physicians in the Sohma family. He didn't have a very warm home life; which is, perhaps, the cause of his stoic personality. He attended school alongside Ayame and Shigure; the three of them were known as the 'Mabudachi Trio'.
When Hatori was in high school and Yuki was young, Yuki ran into a girl while playing, he transformed in front of a group of children. Due to this, Hatori was forced to erase Yuki from the memories of the children. Although Yuki protested, as they were his first friends, Hatori had to follow orders. This caused their relationship to become strained; Yuki did not trust Hatori afterward.
Hatori once had an assistant named Kana Sohma. The two of them spent a lot of time together, and eventually began dating. Hatori felt that Kana was the 'Spring' that melted the "snow" of his heart and believed that he had found true happiness with her. He decided to propose but after asking for permission to marry her, Akito refused and smashed a vase in his eye. The caused Hatori to become almost completely blind in his left eye. Kana blamed herself for his injury, and eventually became sick from the traumatic incident. She would break down into tears every now and then because of what happened. Hatori could not bear to see Kana in pain so he erased her memory and wished for her to find someone who would make her happy again.
The two continued to work together until she had left the office and Hatori became distant again- due to losing the one he loved, and having to bear the pain alone. Hatori tries to prevent anyone else from being hurt like he was, so he is somewhat concerned about Tohru knowing about the Sohma family secret. He tries to convince Tohru to leave the Sohma house before Hatori is summoned to erase her memories.
Hatori's first appearance is during a visit with Momiji to Kaibara High School to examine Yuki, as he had been skipping his routine check-ups. Due to the dress Yuki was made to wear, Hatori had to get him to undress, leading other students to believe that they were a homosexual couple. Only after Yuki clarified that Hatori was a doctor and member of the Sohma family did the others begin to understand.
Hatori then had Tohru called into the school's office to speak with him. There, he invited Tohru to his house so that they may have a longer, private conversation. Before leaving, he warns her to leave Shigure's home and get away from the Sohmas so that she does not get hurt.
When Tohru first sees Hatori transform, he realizes that her reaction was the same as Kana's was. Tohru and Kana both panicked at the sight of Hatori's true form and didn't know whether to put a seahorse in saltwater or fresh water.
Momiji tells Tohru about Hatori's past and Hatori is secretly listening. Tohru starts to cry and Momiji goes to get warm drinks. While Momiji is gone Hatori walks out to tell Tohru not to listen to what Momiji said. When Kana first came to work, Hatori was explaining her job. It began to snow. Kana ignored Hatori, ran to the window and said that she knew it was going to snow. She had asked him "What does snow turn into when it melts?" Of course, being the scientific man he is, he answered "Water of course". Kana imitates a buzzer and tells him that spring is the correct answer. Hatori asked Tohru the same questinn and she answers Spring. He is surprised at her answer.
During Sumer Vacation, Hatori drove Shigure, Yuki, Kyo, and Tohru to the Sohma family's Lake House. After a few moments of relaxation had been spent, Ayame came to visit them on their vacation. During a conversation between the Mabudachi trio; Ayame mentioned Kana's wedding and claimed that Mayuko (Kana's best friend) gave him pictures of the wedding. He then asked Hatori if he would like to view them but he declined his offer. Ayame became upset by Kana's happiness and remarked that Hatori deserves to be much happier than her, as he was left to carry the burden of their lost love.
Personality: Hatori's personality is best described as cold; in the series they mention that he is like snow. Hatori lacks the ability to open up to others and is always quiet and calm. Hatori is a great contrast to Shigure and Ayame's playful nature, as Hatori himself is somber and stern. He also lacks a sense of humor, and tends to take everything seriously. Some people would look at Hatori and think he's scary. However, he does care for other people's well-being, as he does not want Tohru to get involved with the Sohmas like Kana did. He did once find love, and he cared greatly for her and that was his mistake. Akito being enraged about the fact Hatori wished to be married to Kana - not only did Akito make Hatori slightly blind in one eye, he also make Kana think it was her fault. It was killing her internally at the fact she thought it was her fault, Hatori - much to his dismay - eventually had to erase Kana's memories, becoming a little more colder at this.
Abilities: Whenever Hatori is stressed or embraced/embraces a female, he transforms into his Zodiac Animal - the Dragon. Although Hatori is the dragon of the zodiac, he transforms into an eight-centimeter long seahorse rather than an actual dragon. It is explained that in mythology, all dragons start out as seahorses, and only some gain the opportunity to ascend to dragon-hood. Shigure has stated that he believes it to be a sign that the curse is weakening. Hatori is extremely self-conscious about his transformation, and uses blackmail to avoid having it revealed to others. He threatened to tell everyone everything he knew about Shigure since he was 4, this was when Shigure was going to tell Tohru.
Other: Hatori Sohma is the Sohma family's personal doctor. He is the only known living Sohma family member with the ability to use the 'memory suppression' technique (a form of hypnosis used by the Sohmas to suppress the memories of those who discover their curse). Hatori is also the dragon/seahorse of the Chinese zodiac.

personality ;; Kyo is short-tempered, competitive, impulsive and rude, but he also has a soft side that he doesn't like people seeing. He gets embarrassed quickly and is overprotective of those he cares about. Some of his classmates call him Kyo-Kyo or Kyon and Kyo strongly dislikes this and becomes irritated, and Arisa calls him Kyon-Kyon or Carrot-Top because of his strange, vibrant orange hair. There is also some - more specifically, Shigure and Ayame who enjoy teasing Kyo - that call him Kyonkinchi which means "Lucky Kyo" and it can be assumed this is just because Kyo isn't even lucky. Kyo seems to be eager to be accepted into the family who shun him just as society does to the Cat in the Chinese Zodiac, the only way to do this is to beat Yuki Sohma { the rat } in a fight before his days in school are over, otherwise he would be locked up into the "Cat's Room" isolated from all around him and to die alone. By now he seems to be plain if he's ever not invited to anything by his family members as it was just a normal thing by the time as the Sohma family do take the curse seriously. Kyo is actually rather sensitive, though, when it comes to being shunned, left out and if his history is brought up.
Despite his cold exterior, when he manages to open up to you - if ever - he is just like anyone else but he is just haunted by a dark history, curse and secret. His separate curse is dubbed "The Dark Cloud over The Sohma Family" even though many think it's the curse, it is actually Kyo's individual curse in which is the dark cloud. Kyo is truthfully scared of getting close to people only for his true form to be revealed and for them to leave him and hate him just as everyone else - though he never admits to this. Kyo isn't the romantic type of person either, sure, he understands a flirtation once in a while, but that's it, he often becomes awkward in love situations or he'll run away. Kyo is usually being dubbed "Handsome" and "Orange" the handsome part speaking for itself, and this had caused various different situations, such as when some girls wished to affect Uotani in a horrid way but they were distracted by Kyo and Yuki - as they were considered handsome even though both Kyo and Yuki didn't particularly care.
Kyo is extremely violent towards those he dislikes - namely Yuki though he always fails trying to hurt the latter - evident where some girls were pestering him at school and he snapped then pinned a girl to the floor before jumping out of the window to get away from them. He threatens people a lot and that usually works, causing him to be someone you didn't want to try and pick a fight with; save for Haru when he goes black, that is.
history ;; As a young child around the age of four or five Kyo's mother committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, something his father repeatedly blamed him for. After a while, Kyo seems to believe it himself as well, but later he finds that his mother did not kill herself because she was disgusted of Kyo and what he was. She did it because she believed she doomed her family to a life of shame and ridicule for having the cat as a son. This belief was mainly reinforced by much tormenting from Kyo's father.
After the death of his mother, Kyo's father rebuked him and denied to take care of his only son for he blamed Kyo for his wife's suicide. After seeing this treatment and how the last cat, Kazuma's grandfather, was treated by the family, he took Kyo in. After becoming Kyo's adoptive father he began training Kyo in martial arts to perhaps teach him discipline and to help Kyo become stronger in his life knowing it will be so difficult being cursed by the cat.
As a child, Kyo met Kyoko one day while sitting outside near the Honda house. Kyoko was very curious about his hair color and proceeded to talk to him. He was very distant at first for he was not used to that many people wanting to associate with the cat. And, after telling him her name, was embarrassed that it was so similar to his. But Kyoko's persistence broke through as she would do the talking and all he had to do was listen. She continued on about how cute her daughter was, showing him a photo of Tohru and asking if he thought so too. He agreed in silence that she was. After that, she went on to say how strong Tohru was dealing with her father's death and letting her mother take her time; even though Kyoko was in shock during most of that time. After more meetings, Kyo would spy on Tohru and wish to speak to her. And then one day, while near the house, Kyoko lost Tohru while walking and became hysterical. Kyo tells her to wait at home and then promised, as a "man", he would bring her back safe at home. After passing Yuki he lost his hat as he was in a determined hurry to find her. Yuki takes the hat, puts in on, and walks around searching for Kyo and instead he finds Tohru. Kyoko is then seen searching for Kyo and tells him that she was found by a boy with Kyo's cap on. This enrages Kyo and he flees from Kyoko, hurt from not being to one to "save" her daughter.
powers / abilities / extra ;; Kyo Sohma is cursed by the spirit of the cat of the zodiac. He transforms into an orange cat whenever he is hugged by a member of the opposite gender or if he is under a great deal of stress. The cat is not an animal in the Chinese Zodiac, but legend has it that the cat may have been included had the rat not tricked it. Also, Kyo shares some traits with cats. He dislikes water, hence hating to swim or go to a beach (shown when the Sohmas went for their summer vacation). Due to this, his mood changes drastically during rain, becoming restless, tired, moody, and more than easily agitated but at the same time no mood to argue or fight. He prefers to wear a lose-fitting t-shirt or jacket because he doesn't like tight clothing (especially around the neck, like cats hates collars). He has been shown often drinking milk, and becoming annoyed when finding out there wasn't anymore milk in the fridge when Ritsu was around. Once, he was even shown dreaming about fish, enjoying them. As Shishou mentioned, Kyo likes to hide behind walls when he wishes to talk to someone urgently (shown twice) like a cat. He seems to get frightened by loud noises too, becoming startled like a cat. He is also often seen sitting on a roof because like a cat, he is drawn to high places. Being cursed by the spirit of the cat, Kyo has orange hair, like orange fur on cats. His eyes seems to become silt-like when his cat spirit stirs in him, for example when he gets angry at Yuki, the Rat (or his 'natural' enemy). Shigure Sohma has said that the cat was the creature that was left out. His only purpose, he said, was to make the other Zodiac members feel better. 'Good' they think, 'At least I'm better off than him'.
Behind this one - or rather two - curses is an old folk tale of the Chinese Zodiac in which goes as follows;
Long ago, God told all the animals he was throwing a banquet tomorrow, and not to be late. Then mischievous rat told his neighbor, the cat, that the banquet was the day after tomorrow. So, the next day, all the animals lined up for the banquet, and the rat rode there all the way on the ox's back.
All the animals had fun, except for the poor cat, who was at home sleeping and dreaming for a banquet that would never come.
