Well, that was a lot simpler than Henry assumed it would be. "So.." The man started, trailing his finger across his book in circular patterns and offering a bored frown. He stopped before continuing, replacing his fatigued expression with one of more excited origin. "What are you two reading?-" He jumped up and slammed his hands on the table for support, startling his birds even more but not enough to scare them off. "I hope it's more interesting than what I chose, mine is quite boring.." Returning to his original position, Henry placed his head in one hand and used the other to look over his book. The cover art was pretty, at least. It was a beautiful portrait of a local mountain range with the words 'A Guide to Mountains' printed below. "Although, I must admit, I'm amazed to see that there is so much one can write about silly old mountains." He managed partly to stifle a hearty laugh.

The gem stood for a moment in silence, contemplating which body part to go for. The chest, neck, or head would likely provide a more realistic simulation, but could put Deryn danger. Limbs would provide an nonlethal injury on the off chance Deryn failed to block the attack, but a soldier would not aim for the arms and legs of an enemy during battle. She had yet to evaluate Deryn's ability to defend, so it was impossible to judge the possibility of injury. Limbs would probably be a good starting target. Pearl would do her best to stop herself before making contact with Deryn's body, if she didn't block the strike, but there was no guarantee she could do it in time. She lunged at the soldier standing opposite her, facing the spear outward and aiming at her upper right arm.
