Sebastian Michaelis
Age
Unknown/Secret
Nicknames:
The Phantomhive Guard Dog
Relationships:
Butler of Ciel Phantomhive
Species:
Demon
Work:
Butler
Personality:
Sebastian is a dedicated butler to Ciel Phantomhive; he upholds a strong sense of duty to his master and household. He follows and completes each order faithfully while always ensuring that the Phantomhive house runs smoothly. He does not sleep, for demons view it as a form of luxury, and thus frequently performs tasks for Ciel at night. The manner in which he responds to Ciel's demands is quite notable; he says, "Yes, my Lord."
Despite his appearance as a courteous and excellent servant, Sebastian is actually a heartless and sadistic demon. He expresses these traits in a very passive and sarcastic manner. He is ruthless when attacking others on Ciel's orders, such as when he kicks Grell Sutcliff's face because it is the thing he most cherishes. His diabolic nature is also shown through his dark humor and inability to see good in much of anyone. At times Sebastian can be indifferent, and he deliberately delays ensuring Ciel's well-being to tease him. Sebastian has also put Ciel's life in mild danger for his own amusement. He calls Ciel a "brat" who treats his workers rudely. However, despite all the troubles he goes through on a daily basis, he says that he does not dislike the butler lifestyle. He is also very polite.
Sebastian views money as "rubbish" or "materialistic," and is more than willing to give out generous amounts of pocket money given to him. He is fluent in French and Latin, enough to teach the latter. He is also knowledgeable and proficient in Deutsch (German) and East Franconian, a dialect in Southern Germany. Sebastian has a strong and mutual distaste for Grim Reapers. He greatly favors cats, and keeps at least thirteen hidden in his closet to prevent Ciel from finding out.
Sebastian often contemplates the behaviors and attitudes of human beings. He finds humans in general to be "difficult creatures," but he adds that their struggles and lofty goals make them interesting. He is also intrigued about how insatiable they are, as they are willing to "drag others down to get what they want, even in death."
Special Talents:
Enhanced Strength: Demons are shown to be vastly stronger than humans. Sebastian was able to cause an entire concrete dam to collapse after one punch, rip the top of a train car's roof and throw it effortlessly and stop a moving train with one hand.
Enhanced speed: Sebastian has demonstrated the ability to outrun a car that was attempting to speed away from him. He is also able to block or dodge objects, such as his sword fight with Agni. He is also able to run to places in one hour that would take a day to get to by coach or railroad and outrun a moving train.
Enhanced endurance: While fighting Grell Sutcliff, who was wielding his powerful death scythe, Sebastian was able to sustain multiple injuries from him and continue fighting and protecting Ciel. Sebastian is also able to survive attacks that would kill humans, such as when shot in the head and chest multiple times by Azzurro Vanel's men, withstand get stab, slash and even a severed arm like nothing happened also withstand a concrete bridge to his head. However, more powerful weapons such as a Death Scythes can significantly weaken or even kill a demon.
Enhanced sense of smell: Sebastian is able to find humans based on smell, including ones he has never personally met; is able to deduce if they are dead, alive, or injured; and is able to discern if someone is a human or a member of another race, as shown when he quickly identified Agni as a human rather than a Grim Reaper. Sebastian states that he is able to pick up any kind of scent.
Enhanced senses: Sebastian was easily able to hear the rifleman who attempted to kill him and see each and every person who escaped from Violet Dorm after it caught on fire. Demons also seem to be able to sense living souls.
Transformation: Sebastian has demonstrated that he can switch between his human form to his true demon form and back quickly. In this form, he effortlessly killed an angel within ten seconds and caused an explosion when Ciel's soul was missing. It is questionable as to where this is an ability all demons have. Claude also seems to be able to transform into the form of a spider. During Episode 4, Claude is seen having a long, inhuman tongue briefly. And at other points of time, Claude has spun and shot webs while still in human form. Also in the manga it is implied several times that Sebastian can change his appearance at will (though this is more along the lines of lengthening and shortening hair within the manga, but it's said that he can change his appearance to fit whatever's needed of him)
Soul staining: It is not known precisely how this works or what it entails, but Grell states that a demon's hands and lips have the ability to stain a soul.
Fire control: By revealing the sign of his contract, Sebastian is able to set an entire mansion on fire from three small candles. It is unknown if this is an inherent ability or if a demon needs to have a contract in order to use it.
Manipulation: Beyond making contracts for a human's soul, Sebastian has offered to make other deals or attempted to charm and manipulate people in order to get what he wants. William has called this the "signature" ability of a demon, and states that it works by "deceiving prey with sweet words and dragging them into darkness." While ineffective against William, he later uses this ability to get Beast, who initially dislikes Sebastian, to reveal important information.
Body Manipulation: Sebastian is shown to be able to twist someone's arm just by twirling his finger.
Immortality: as Sebastian said a demon can live forever, and they will heal/regenerate from any injuries even if their entire bodies are destroyed, but a demon could get killed by a demonic sword known as Lævateinn or a Grim Reaper's scythe.
Manifestation: Sebastian was able to recreate the Phantomhive manor, including the building itself and all of the furniture and decorating, in a matter of hours. He was also able to create a feast in an instant. Likewise Claude completely redecorates the Trancy manor in the time it takes a party of guests to arrive, and later changes the color of the interior walls overnight. Demons also seem to posses a great capacity for learning and retaining information, as shown with Sebastian quickly learning and exceling in cooking, art, language, music, etc.
Demonic Conversion: Demons are shown to be able (anime only) to convert humans into demons. Alois Trancy (while possesing Ciel's body) ordered Hannah to not allow Claude or Sebastian to obtain Ciel's soul. Ciel was then reborn as a demon, waking with the signature pink-slitted eyes. It is not clear if this ability is available to all demons.
Levitation: It is shown that, when the first time Sebastian encountered Ciel, his feet weren't touching the ground.
Appearance Transformation: Sebastian was able to take away his skin conditions from the Werewolf's miasma by swiping his hand across a mirror.
History:
Sebastian's real home is in an alternate world that is quite different from the human world. In particular, he mentioned that the creatures kept as pets there are in no way comparable to cats. Sebastian had briefly remarked that he met an ancient Egyptian mummy when it was alive; identified by Sebastian as Smenkhkare who reigned about three thousand years ago. He was also a guest at the Schönbrunn Palace from time to time. He also claims to be responsible for the spread of the Black Death that occurred five hundred years prior. In short, he muses that Ciel Phantomhive's life in comparison would feel like an instant.
Sebastian stated that, in the past, he engaged in "messily sampling every dish available," and has since resorted to only consuming "high-quality" souls. As a result, he has been apparently starving, but he declared that the "dinner" will be much better the hungrier he is.
Three years ago, he was summoned to Ciel Phantomhive when the latter was about to be sacrificed in an occult ritual. After forming the contract with Ciel and placing the seal on his right eye, Ciel ordered him to slay his abductors. Sebastian decided to adopt a "role that is best fit to serve an Earl"; therefore taking a form of a butler, until Ciel completes his personal mission of revenge—that is the substance of their contract. In return, Sebastian will receive Ciel's soul. He was then given the name "Sebastian" by Ciel, which used to be his dog's name, for the duration of his duties as Ciel's butler.
Once he was finished annihilating the cultists, they went to the Royal London Hospital to meet with Ciel's aunt, Angelina Dalles. There, Tanaka gave him a watch that had been passed down from one Phantomhive butler to the next. After that, Angelina arranged for a carriage to bring them to the ruins of the Phantomhive manor. While Ciel was mourning the deaths of his parents, Sebastian reconstructed the manor.
Ciel and Sebastian then began daily life. He taught Ciel the fundamentals of an being an earl, while he learned from his new master how to be a butler fit for the Phantomhive household. He later attended Ciel's coronation as the Earl of Phantomhive, but did not observe at a close distance because he saw himself as a mere butler, not family. While they were walking, Sebastian asked Ciel if he was happy with how things were and, at Ciel's hesitation, attempted to devour him. He was stopped, however, when Ciel suddenly turned around and stated that he was determined to attain his revenge. He commanded Sebastian to be his sword and shield and bring him victory. Sebastian complied, as he was sure that Ciel's soul would be extremely delicious.

Nicknames:
Plu-Plu
Relationships:
The Phantomhive Manner's Guard Dog
Species:
Demon Hound
Work:
Guard Dog
Personality:
He never speaks, and simply makes dog-like sounds, such as howling, barking, and whining noises. Even in his human form, he retains dog-like characteristics, such as continuing to run around on all fours and using his nose to find things. He can turn into his human form upon will, or unintentionally when excited.
Pluto does not seem to be overly fond of most people, but listens to Sebastian Michaelis most of the time and is notably envious when Sebastian gives his attention to a cat. He likes Innuko dog treats.
Special Talents:
Fire breath: They can breathe fire from their mouth in both their human and dog forms. They do not seem to have a limit to this ability, as Pluto is able to continue breathing fire even long after igniting most of London. It is also shown to have a range of destructive abilities, being able to both minorly injuring humans to frighten them away, while allowing the dog the ability to add additional force that can set an entire city on fire, killing and injuring a substantial number of its inhabitants.
Enhanced strength: They have enough strength to easily overwhelm humans, including Finnian whose strength has been enhanced through injections. However, they are not more powerful than angels or demons, with members of both races demonstrating an ability to subdue demon hounds with ease.
Door opening: By turning into their demon hounds forms, they are able to open supernaturally sealed doors that even Grim Reapers and Demons cannot open.
History:
Houndsworth:
When the Phantomhive household goes to the village of Houndsworth, they initially believe the legend of the Demon Hound to be a farce created by Henry Barrymore, but when he is dragged from the cell where he was being kept and found dead, they investigate further.
Finnian, Baldroy, Mey-Rin, and Tanaka, while looking for Angela Blanc, initially discover a strange, nude man, and before they can investigate him further, they are distracted by the townspeople. When they turn around, they see a large Demon Hound, but decide to follow him further when they notice he is carrying part of Angela's clothing. However, it turns out that he was just her pet, but had killed Henry because of his abuse of the Demon Hound legend. Angela asks if they will take him in so he can behave better, and Ciel Phantomhive agrees, knowing how much Sebastian despises dogs.
Shard of Hope:
He aids Ciel, Grell Sutcliff, and Sebastian in finding Elizabeth Midford by unsealing the door to the tower she is being held in. After their fight with Drossel Keinz he is seen calmly laying at Drossel's master's feet, much to Ciel's and Sebastian's surprise. It is later shown that the reason for this is because the puppet manipulating Drossel was controlled by Angela.
Conspiracy and Revenge:
Pluto is seen when Mey-Rin, Baldroy, and Finnian recall their pasts and how they were recruited. He is seen helping Finnian with his gardenwork, though he creates more problems by burning all the trees. Later, he uses his fire breath to defend Phantomhive Manor.
When Ash goes on the rampage, he uses Pluto's demon hound abilities to set most of London on fire. As he goes out of control and cannot be stopped with mere anesthetic, Ciel orders his servants to kill Pluto. Mey-Rin, Finnian, and Baldroy sadly agree, and using their various skills, are able to take him out, injuring themselves in the process.
In the end Sebastian promises Ciel that he would "gather Pluto's bones" later, indicating that Pluto had been killed.
