Aine tried to hide the compulsive flinch when his skin touched hers, so unused to kind touches. She watched as his hands guided hers over the stone, getting used to the pattern of sharpening. She nodded slowly. "Okay," she said.

Damien nodded and let go. He leaned back.

Aine began dragging the knife across the stone by herself, over and over, until she picked up the blade and saw the side she had been working on had been honed to a sharp edge. She touched it's edge with her fingertip, and skin sliced open upon contact. Aine smiled, proud of herself.
