Ana smiled shakily at Jared, taking the seat next to him.
"Hello, Alan. Nice costume!" she smiled broadly at his red devil costume, obviously bought last second, a few sizes too small, plastic pitchfork and everything. She laughed at the irony behind Alan's choice, considering Jared was an angel. She looked around, recognizing a few faces here and there. Amy from Bio, Callin from Algebra 2... It looked like half their school was crammed into this small, dingy restaurant.
"Oh!" she said in surprise as a Ceasar salad was plopped down in front of her. Jess nodded her head towards Alan, smiling wryly.
"He's the one you should be thanking." Ana smiled brightly at the kind boy, who was waving it off.
"I just remembered you didn't eat most meats. It was nothing."
"I'd still like to thank you, so... Thank you." Ana picked up the fork, scooting every so slightly closer to Jared as she ate her first bite. It wasn't the best salad she'd ever eaten, but it wasn't the worst, either. It was average.
