The Haunted (1x1 RP DO NOT POST)

[Lady Mekka]

Ana smiled shakily, shaking her head side to side.
"It's nothing, I just feel... foreboding. Like something bad's going to happen." she laughed, shaking it off. "I'm just imagining things because it's Halloween. I'm sure it's nothing." She gingerly grabbed the offered coat, not even bothering to put her arms through the holes. She hit the unlock button, climbing in. She shivered again, feeling the bad feeling slide father into the pit of her stomach. She hadn't felt this apprehensive of anything since she had her braces put in in 2nd grade.

"Hey, it's probably just the cold and anticipation for tonight." Jared said kindly, satisfyed that she'd taken his coat. "We'll have a great time tonight." He slid in beside her, fastening his seatbelt awkardly with the bulky black wings sitting diagonally in his lap.

Ana laughed at the sight of the wings, looking in the backseat.
"You know, you could put those back there." She pointed her thumb over her shoulder, wiggling into the jacket so her arms were in the sleeves so she could drive. She hit the garage door opener, turning the heat in her car up to make up for the waves of goosebumps that made her hair stand on end, putting her key in, starting up the car.

Jared beamed at her. "Good idea." He reached over the seat and dropped them in the backseat with a flourish. "I'll put 'em back on when we get there" He told her absently, flicking his fringe from his face in an automatic movement that he seemed to be doing all to often lately.

Ana shifted the car into reverse, craning her head to look over her shoulder, easing out of the garage. She put her foot on the break, hitting the button to lower the garage door and shifting to drive, heading around her half-circle drive to exit. She made it to the Hog Shack in a well-enough pace, keenly watching the road for any early trick-or-treaters. This time of the night, about 5 o'clock, was the time set out by the city rules for kids age 0-7 to go out, so they could get their candy and not be subject to any horrific costume any older kid might be wearing. This rule was set out because a little kid 10 or 15 years ago had an asthma attack when he was scared by a gory costume. He survived, but parents grew concerned. Ana had to agree, it was a smart idea to set out specific times for trick-or-treating for different age groups.

Jared gazed out of the window, enjoying how the sky was darkening just a little, leaving streaks of deep blue and gray across the clouds. "We're here" He smiled excitedly, feeling very much like a little boy himself as he tried to steady the shivers of anticipation that skittered across his skin.

Ana was still getting waves of goosebumps, but she ignored them, unlocking the doors, pushing hers open, and standing up, removing Jared's jacket.
"Don't forget your wings!" she said, leaning into her car to pop the trunk. She shut her door, walking to the back of her car to fish her 'picnic basket' purse out, closing the trunk. She then walked back to her door, bending over to apply lip gloss once more before she started to head into the Hog Shack. She was mostly vegetarian, so she knew she wasn't going to eat anything but a salad here, so she had eaten a small chicken breast earlier. She wrinkled her nose as the stench of cooking pig meat met her nose. It wasn't the taste, or the fact that meat came from animals that made her a vegetarian. It was the smell of cooking flesh. It brought back bad memories... She snapped out of it, determined to make it through the meal without getting sick. She plastered a smile on her face, waiting for Jared.

Jared nodded, quickly grasping the wings with both hands and hauling them from the back. He scanned his hazel eyes around the parking lot to try to find Alan or Jess's car, and he spotted it not to far away from Ana's. Without thinking, he pulled his mobile from his pocket to check it for messages. To Jared's utter surprise, the screen was black and no matter what he tried, it would not turn on. "But I charged it up this morning..." He mused to himself, stuffing it back into his pocket and following Ana.

Ana tried her hardest to cheerily walk into the greasy joint, but she couldn't quite make it last.
"Ana!" Jess said, jumping up out of her faux leather red and white booth seat, giving her a hug. "I totally love your costume, girl!" Jess's southern twang was comforting to Ana, reminding her of times passed in the shopping mall and sleepovers.
"I... like yours... I guess..." Ana said, her eyes scrutinizing the gory costume.
"I'm a car crash victim." Jess announced proudly, holding out her arms and twirling around. "I made it myself." Ana's eyes grew watery, but she fought to stay happy.
"It's amazing." she said, clenching her hands into fists, trying to ignore the flood of memories.

Jared frowned and stepped forwards, slinging his arm around Ana's waist with an almost protective air. "Let's sit down, eh?" He mumbled to her under his breath. His eyes found Alan slouching lazily at a table. "Hey." He nodded at him, "Good to see ya both." He slid into the booth, keeping a seat for Ana beside him and leaning back.
