Jared said nothing, only stared blindly ahead of him with a sinking feeling of helplessness.

Riley felt his hackles prickle warningly as Lawrence stepped closer to Victoria, but he said nothing. Instead, he replaced the sharp comment he was thinking with; "Maybe- You should try it."

Victoria nodded, walking forward. Gesturing widely with her arms towards her bedroom door, walking towards it in hopes that the girl would follow.

"I think they want us to go through that doorway." Ana said, grabbing Jared's hand as she walked slowly forward, one now dirty ruby slipper after another.

Jared tentatively grasped Ana's hand, too confused to note that in ordinary circumstances, that gesture from her would make his day. He followed her, his biceps stained with dust.

Riley watched Victoria with somewhat sullen eyes. What if this didn't work?

Victoria looked at Riley, noting his expression.
"This had better work." she said to him, almost challenging him to prove her wrong with her tone. Her ghostly shoulders were tense as she walked over to her writing desk, gathering herself to pick up the quill.

"I think she's going to write you something." Ana said once she could understand the item in Victoria's hand. It was a quill, and there was dusty paper still on the desk.

'My name is Victoria.' she wrote, setting the quill back down as she let herself rest. It was exhausting to lift the quill.

"Okay- Wait, me?" Jared frowned, his eyes still roaming but seeing nothing in the dusty space ahead of him and Ana. He moved over to the desk, then back again. Plumes of dust rose from behind him.

Riley lowered his head a little, still uncomfortable, but he was willing to let Victoria try. There was still a chance it might prevail, and then he and Victoria could finally rest together. This thought jerked him back, and his golden eyes slid back to Lawrence, he'd almost forgotten about his presence.

"Well, she looks like she wrote something, and I'm blind right now, so..." Ana gently shoved Jared towards the desk. "I'll give you warning they start to look menacing."

"I hope this works." Victoria said, sitting on the floor next to Riley, not caring about her dress. Lawrence looked appalled by her lack of manners, but didn't say anything. He was starting to realize that he wasn't making their redemption come any sooner by saying his snide comments.
