The demon hound snarled softly as he watched him, then shook himself as he gave a soft snort and seemed to snicker laugh at him.

Alice made a face and looked over her book at them, frowning. "You're both being loud," she asserted. "I can't read if you're tackling each other and squealing like that. Leave the room and do that."

With a light sigh of relief, Alice went back to reading her Jane Austen novel, relaxing into the silence. She adjusted her white nightgown and rested her cheek in the palm of her left hand, using her right to thumb through the pages of her book listlessly.

There was nothing but dark poems in it. There were about 6 or 7 of them, each spanning at least three pages.
