Despite the satisfying crunch that came with the indulgence of tacos, I found myself less than satisfied. Don't get me wrong, the tacos were great but I couldn't help the rift that seemed to be growing within me on a more emotional stature. It...hurt? Hiro was great and I loved him to death but without the constant coddling of the flock or more specifically Ren, I was beginning to feel emotionally starved. It had barely been more than twenty-four hours and this was the effect that distance had on me. How would I feel a month from now? Would I have grown numb to the subtle ache or will I succumb to the pain that threatens to overwhelm me? Shaking my head I cleared my mind and just focused on the stupid taco that somehow managed to dredge up some seriously deep philosophical crap that I didn't need to dwell on.

The city was a pretty place to be sometimes. The bright lights and quickly moving cars that I could have easily outrun if I wanted to. Maybe if the whole finding Jinx thing didn't work out I could shift and just be some hot chick's huge puppy with a serious pedigree. I couldn't help but scoff at the idea. Then again I wouldn't say no to a cute guy with a clumsy disposition and an inability to be awkward. Something about those kinds of guys attracted me like a moth to a flame. Then again I was always quite dominant in a relationship and enjoyed the idea of having someone to protect. Sighing softly I ran my fingers through my growing white hair and began walking through alleyways aimlessly to pass the time. I needed to straighten out my thoughts.

Hiro noticed a small movement from the corner of his eye and looked over at Jinx, who he assumed had shaken her head for some reason. There was a somewhat sad look to her eyes, but he ignored it. It was probably nothing; Jinx showed random emotions all the time. He went back to munching on his taco indulgently and looked around the room for something to do. There was a television but for one, he didn't know where the remote was and there was no way he was getting up to turn it on, and two, it would probably make quite a bit of noise, and he wanted to avoid being found at all costs. Even with the door locked and shut, he was still extremely wary of what--or rather, who--might be on the other side.

After nibbling my way through a second taco I'd found that my appetite had been stolen by the very thoughts I'd been working so hard to ignore. Sighing softly I moved towards the slightly dinged up headboard of the bed and stretched out across the assortment of pillows. I was tempted to destroy them all but I was sure that Hiro wouldn't appreciate that kind of mess floating around and would no doubt spray me in the face with water or something. The very idea of that happening made me want to cower and run despite the fact that I was a deadly creature. "This little adventure is going to be much more difficult than I'd originally thought."

Hiro sighed and let his hand move to her ears, petting them and scratching them softly. "Why do you say that?" he asked, looking at her from under his overgrown bangs. He was now on his third taco and was steadily crunching through it, trying not to make much noise. It wasn't hard for him. "You're the one who wanted to do this in the first place," he reminded her quietly, looking up at the ceiling. All his life he'd wanted silence and peace like this, and now was his chance to grasp it and keep it. She wasn't thinking of going back, was she?

ren bit his lip softly, looking over at Storm, then walked back over to him. "Storm, i'm gonna head back to the flock. you can handle grabbing food by yourself, right? if theres any Erasers, just run." he brushed up against Storm's shoulder gently as he passed, then hurried quickly back towards the end of the buildings. the forest was close enough, and once out of sight he could fly.

It wasn't until I managed to grasp some sense of humanity that I found my ability to speak through the never-ending purrs that reverberated through my small frame. It hated it when Hiro made good points and then I hated myself for not being able to come to the same conclusions what with my being much older than him. "I don't know how to cope with this. As much as I distanced myself in the past it was inevitable that I grew to care for the flock more and more as time went on. I'd say that it's Ren that keeps me from truly being free but then I'd sound like an idiot. Then again, I'd rather sound like an idiot than lie to myself."

Sighing deeply I leaned into the small but skillful fingers that worked their way through my fur--or maybe a mixture of fur and hair-- in an almost methodical manner that left me feeling more relaxed than I should have considering my current inner turmoil. Hiro wasn't going to want to go back no matter how much I griped an complained and he knew I'd stay with a bit of persuasion in the form of an adorable pouty face and some wise words. "For whatever reason I find myself craving the attention that I used to get and now that its gone I feel almost empty. There's a certain level of intimacy with another person that I feel the need to maintain for happiness and now that it's gone I'm not sure what to do with myself. Under normal circumstances we'd be on the run so I wouldn't have time to really think because of all the fighting and running we'd always have to do. Now that I have time to think, I'm slowly driving myself insane."

Dirk was lurking in the trees on the outskirts of the city, just peoplewatching as he moved quickly from tree to tree. He quite enjoyed watching random strangers, as much as he would hate it if one of them came up and talked to him. He liked to look at them and analyze their body language to try and assess their everyday life. That chick was definitely a mom, and she probably didn't have a husband. Most likely a boyfriend. That guy with the green bangs was either a hipster or a scene kid, hopefully the latter. He loved scene guys, if only for their style. That guy walking toward the forest probably--oh, never mind. That guy was Ren. He whistled a sharp call, his own unique one that he'd come up with himself, and shook his head violently, hoping he would see the mass of bright red hair shaking.

Hiro frowned, keeping his hand on her ears as he slid down on the bed and wrapped her in a one-armed hug. It felt a bit odd, him being the one to give comfort in a physical manner, but he could tell she needed something right now, and that was all he could think to do. He couldn't even think of a way to properly reply to what she'd said. He knew he could be an insufferable kitten sometimes but he realised that now that it was just him and Jinx, he'd have to put out a little more effort. And he was trying, he truly was, but being so...emotional and caring...he just wasn't used to it. He hated regular skin contact and tried to avoid it, but Jinx was the only one who administered that contact and now he was alone with someone who needed a social life, or at least someone to talk to, and he couldn't even speak.

Ren had been watching the ground slightly in front of him, watching the white tips of his converse tap against the ground in a rhythm. he was drumming the fingers on one hand against his leg, the other tucked safely in his pocket. a sharp whistle caught his attention, crisp sounding against the muffled humming voices of the fading city. Ren looked up, his olive green eyes hooking onto a bright red color against the green trees. a light smile played on his lips as he recognized Dirk. that hair would get him killed one day. he quickened his pace, heading towards the tree the teen was perched in like, well, a bird. "what are you doing here?"

This was what I feared. I felt like a child again as I found myself readily accepting the comfort he provided. It almost felt like I was being caged again. Bitter silence and the childish fears that were often brought to life whether I voiced said fears or not. It took a few moments for me to gather myself before I could sit up and shrug the small child off. I stood slowly and approached a full length mirror situated near the door and sighed at what I saw. And just like that I found myself taking out every piercing that I'd given myself and letting them fall to the floor until I stood in my own skin with no alterations. "You know what? I'm no longer weighed down with the flock and petty drama my little kitten. It's about time I find out just who Jinx Slaughter really is." With every word I could feel my resolve strengthen considerably. I couldn't force Hiro to be my emotional outlet when I knew good and well he had no idea on how to put up with a teenage girl who wanted different affections that he couldn't offer. Nope. I was going to find myself and in time maybe build some sort of decent life for the small child that I'd pretty much adopted as my own.
