Embry returned to his human form. After a while he joined Jacob. "She coming alone or is that bloodsucker bringing her here. I can't scent him, if he is bringing," he said.

Jacob looked into the distance. "I don't see that stupid sparkly car of his either.... Wait! Hey, look! Bells came without the bloodsuckers!" he ran up to greet her, then stopped as he realized he was going to cross the boundary line.


Bella jumped out of her truck and skipped over the boundary line. She smiled. "Hey Jake, hey Embry." she greeted them.

Jacob wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into a tight hug. "Hey Bells!" he replied cheerfully.


Bella squirmed away, giggling. "Now now Jacob, you know how my 'bloodsucker' would feel if I came back to have him smell me smelling like wet dog." she joked.


Jacob winced and cringed at the mention. "You always run home to your precious leech?" he replied bitterly. "Of course. You can't come and hang with the... dogs," he said the word "dogs" angrily, "can you?" he growled.


Bella looked sincere. "Sorry Jake... Just a joke... And I haven't seen Edward all day... I haven't seen him at all lately."


Jacob snorted. "I knew he'd leave you again." he growled.


Bella was hurt. "Jacob... You know how painful it is for me to think of that..." she murmured.


Jacob nodded. "I know I know." he hugged her again. "If you were, I dunno.. With me, for example, I'd never leave you." he murmured in her ear. "You wouldn't even have to change for me..." he added.


Bella nodded. "I know... But... I love him... You know that." she said softly.


Jacob pulled away, his eyes looking down. "Yeah... I do..." he muttered. He turned to Embry and sighed, then pushed past him, sprinting off into the forest.


Bella looked anxiously at Embry. Of course she didn't know why Jacob left. She didn't know how he felt about her... "Embry, why'd he run off like that?" she asked him quietly.

"The things he's told me vampire girl," Embry said. "It's a long story." he said walking after Jacob. "Follow me."

Bella shrugged. "Okay..." she murmured.



Jacob-- in rage and in his wolf form-- was tearing through the forest. You could hear the birds chirping in fear a mile away, the ground rattling, trees shaking, some falling over. An ear-splitting, heart-shattering howl of pure agony sounding throughout the forest.


Bella's ears rung. "Is that... Is that Jacob?" she asked incredulously, gasping when she heared the horrible wailing cry of agony and sorrow.

"Unfortuantley, yes," Embry said. He leaped over a log and went into his werewolf form. "Come on," he said sniffing the ground.

Bella sighed. "You werewolves are so big I might as well put saddles on you and ride you across a farm, herding cattle." she muttered, needing to run to keep up with Embry's huge wolf steps. "What's wrong with Jake? I've never heard him sound so.... Depressed..." she said slowly, jogging by Embry's side.

Alice sighed and stopped the car, pulling up on the side of the road. She had been searching all day to find Edward for Bella. Bella.. She thought, wondering how she was doing without him. Closing her eyes, she focused on Bella, but it was all fuzzy. "Stupid dogs.." She muttered, Bella must be with a werewolves. Sighing, she pulled her cellphone out of her pocket and sent Bella a speedy text. It said:
Hey Bell,
r u ok? Just checking on you..

Bella's phone buzzed. She read the text and texted back:

Ya im fine, just hanging out with the wolves... Found Edward yet? Btw I may be a while.... Jake seems really depressed. Hes ripping apart the forest out here... C u later.

Alice sighed, a bit of concern going through her. Bella shouldn't be around an angry werewolf. Sighing, she texted back..
No, I haven't.
Please be careful Bella...

She put her phone down and starting to drive again, her car going down the highway in a blur.

Bella sighed at the text and replied.

Where could he be...?
I'll be careful, I promise.
Don't worry about me.
I'll be fine.

Bella looked up. "Embry, Jake sounds really really mad... What's up with him? Tell the story. Please? I wanna know why he's in pain. His pain is my pain." Bella pleaded for him to tell, stating the last part.
