Mason sat by the fire, at least trying to warm up his hands. He set his bow, arrows, and pack back next to him.

Jace Lee: District 1

Jace was hesitant on answering Caleb about the fallen tributes, so he stayed silent instead. In what seemed like a few hours after that, Caleb woke him abruptly, getting worried about a fire nearby. "It's fine, it shouldn't reach us." He encouraged him, slowly falling back to sleep. But it wasn't long until he was awake again. This time, it wasn't from Caleb. Nor the game makers. He smelt smoke, and could see Ruby and Mason a few feet away. Of course, he didn't want anything to do with Mason. He looked to Caleb, holding up his index finger to his mouth to tell him to keep silent. He stayed silent in the tree, which was just a few out of the clearing Ruby and Mason where in, his mind wandering back to the kiss with Ruby. Did it really mean nothing to her?

"Way to go, us," I laugh, seeing as we're the only Careers around. We aren't much, but we're something. The games are just... Different this year. I sit down next to Mason and let the fire want my cold body up, evaporating away the cold water. I sigh as the flames mesmerize me, my green eyes staring straight into the orange glow. "I think that I'm in love with this fire," I joke.

Caleb|District 10|12

I awaken as Jace tells me to be quiet. I peer down the tree and see two people. One's Ruby, I'm sure of it, and the other is one of the older tributes. I remember him from training. Him and Ruby always threw knives together. I glance over at Jace, wondering what his next move is going to be. He can't kill them... He just can't.

Mason clicked his tounge, "Ditch Jace for the fire. Well done." He joked, smirking,

Jace Lee: District 1
Jace quickly pulled out the three knives from the tree, then made his way down the tree silently. He wanted to kill Mason. He needed to kill Mason. He silently maneuvered through the narrow trees and when he got a clear shot, he threw one of the daggers with force, landing it right next to Mason's head. He couldn't just kill him that way. He needed to kill him where he wouldn't feel guilty. He was still fairly hidden in the trees, though Mason could surely see him he guessed.

Ruby|District 1|16

My mouth hangs open, speechless, and my face burns from embarrassment. The first thing that comes to my mind is defensiveness. "Just because he can give a whole speech on how my eyes 'gleam with determination' doesn't mean that I like him!" I say, a smile on my face. I shake my head as I remember what happened after interviews. Too bad Mason doesn't know about that kiss. Even if it didn't last for more than a few seconds, I wish I could take it back and do it all over again. Too bad Mason doesn't know that, either. I hop up as I hear the sound of a blade slicing through the air. Backing away from the fire is my initial reaction. I want to run, and hide in the trees, away from the attacker. "Mason!" I manage to shout, but it comes out in a small, childish scream.

Mason instantly ducked and moved, heard the swish of the knife and looked at it in the tree. His heart was thumping and he looked terrified and angered at the same time.

Ruby|District 1|16

"Don't just sit there!" I scream, "come on, run!" My hands begin shaking as I make the horrible realization that I may be living my last few seconds. Anger wells up inside me and I pull the knife out of the tree. It's a dagger, and it reminds me of Jace. At least if I die now, I'll die thinking of him. I stalk over to the sillohette of the attacker and pull my arm back. I shove him into tree and hold the knife in the air, wanting so bad to plunge it into the tribute's chest. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't cut your throat out, and make or snappy," I demand, leaning in close to them.

Jace quickly threw his second dagger, aimed at Mason's leg. This one, stuck to him. And that was it. That was all Jace could manage to do to him. He couldn't just kill him without him fighting back. He immediately took off running back to the tree, but was caught almost immediately by Ruby. He couldn't fight back against her, with the fear of hurting her. He kept his hood up and his head low, his mind racing. "Kill me." He spoke deeply, his voice out of its normal. Inside, he almost wished that she would kill him. That then Caleb would be safe and she wouldn't have to deal with him. He hoped Caleb understood why he had to attack Mason. He was too much of a threat, and he didn't trust him.
