His family name is rather old, adopting quite the story behind it. Flora, the Roman Goddess of flowers and Spring, was said to have placed a blessing on the first member of the house over a thousand years ago. The city in which he resided had stopped worshiping the goddess and refused her blessings, preferring instead their gods of science and logic. The first member of the house, a man named Cassius, had been a florist who still avidly worshiped Flora and the other gods related to the harvest and spring. Flora, noticing the man's unwavering faith despite his townspeople's objections and foolishness, decided to meet the man in disguise out of curiosity. She took on the appearance of a young girl, holding a golden flower in her right hand.
Walking up to Cassius's little store, a humble thing, only brought to beauty by the abundance of flowers, she pretended to be an innocent youth and asked for a blossom and stating that she had no money to repay him but that she would give him the golden flower she had in return for one of his. Cassius, being kind and taking pity on the girl, agreed with a smile to the trade despite that the golden flower she gave him not nearly as beautiful as the one he gave her. Flora smiled at the man and suddenly asked him a question. "Young man, do you have any wishes that you would have granted?"
Surprised at this question but deciding to answer honestly he said, "That the flowers will bloom once again, this year and the next and the next, for all of time. Hopefully Flora will forgive my townspeople, for humans are foolish and still young." Flora looked at the man, stunned by his reply. She then took on a form that would represent her more as the goddess of spring. And so she blessed humble Cassius, putting a hand on his head. "Thy wish will be granted and you and all of your children and their children and their children will have my blessings, mortal. Carry my gifts with pride, Cassius Floris."

Having been born blind did not exactly play on Aurum's strings of happiness. Although his family was wealthy and held political status and he held claim to it as the first-born son, Aurum spent most of his childhood locked away in a more-or-less abandoned mansion his family owned at the edges of some forests. There were attendants there for him of course; a maid and a butler, a cook and his tutor which came without regards to his own schedules. This led to easily being stressed out when surrounded by a large group of people, although he did not show it. His face would always be still, emotionless and almost tranquil. He would listen and reply to visitors[such as doctors] that his parents sent his way with grace. Aurum spent most of his time drifting into thought, drowning in the oceans of possibilities and wandering the forests of imagination.
He became more soft-spoken as the years passed, a characteristic he still retains. He isn't cold unless you give him a reason to be, although he is distant. He'll put up the front of defensive more than offensive, despite how intimidating he might look. One of Aurum's greatest desires would always be to be able to see the world with his own eyes and that too hadn't changed throughout the years. If you give him time and trust, Aurum will more than gladly become your friend, although his lack of expression won't exactly announce that. When he firsts encounters people in this alternate reality, he doesn't actually question their odd attributes and the odd characteristics of the flora and fauna of the world as much as a normal person would, due to not actually ever having seen what "normal" was.

As a blinded person, Aurum never cared much for appearances. He cleaned himself up as he was told, and wore whatever the butler or the maid told him to wear. The only times he would refuse on a certain set of clothes would be if the fabric did not feel pleasant under his fingers, since the sensation of the cloth was more important to him than how it looked, he might as well be offered that one pleasure. When guests would come over to the mansion, they would regularly state both openly and under their breaths how handsome or imposing he looked, although they would quickly grow silent after Aurum politely nodded and accepted the compliment with a small joke about how he wouldn't know.
After arriving to the foreign world of imagination and stories and dreams, he quickly became aware of what those visitors has meant. Aurum gained vision after entering the world, which out of all things, stunned him the most. The colors are still slightly strong to his eyes, however, so for the sake of his health often wears the familiar cover. Once seeing his reflection, it dawned on him that he was in fact quite handsome, although quickly scorned the vain thought.
Aurum stands tall at 6'2. He has a lean and graceful build, even for an elf. His skin is an odd color, painted with a attractive chocolate hue although he was sure that he had once been told that his ancestors came from Europe and that he had no African American lineage. In contrast to the color, his hair was a golden blonde, which complimented his name, since Aurum meant gold in Latin. This hair color, at least, he was sure he had before he came to this place. Almost mocking his previous blindness in the other world, his eyes remain a silvery gray color. His ears were strange though, pointed and longish, with nipped ends. The most shocking feature of his appearance, however, were the horns that grew out from the side of his head. They were a pleasant auburn and decorated with an odd golden pattern, although that did not change the fact that he was absolutely sure he did not have them before!

He always wears his coat and always had his eye cover on him [ both shown in the picture]. When he first awoke in this odd land he had been wearing the two, although how they magically appeared on his bodice has always been a question he'd like to answer. His ears were already pierced and adorned with the two golden rings and he hasn't bothered to remove them either. He usually wears some elven pants to cover his bottom half but seldom wears anything on top, leaving what will be shown and what will not up to the coat. And yes, when he appeared on this planet he did have a coat and no pants. It's not his fault, but he did go through some quite awkward explanations to some nearby village elves afterward.
t r a v e l l i n g. c o m p a n i o n. || Unless asked, he probably won't take on a companion due to his awkwardness with people.
w e a p o n. || He duel wields short-swords.
r e l a t i o n s h i p s. || none as of yet, he doesn't really care for such things.
s k i l l s. || Unlike most Elven folk, Aurum does not take to the bow as he does with swords. He likes the way they swing and, the darker, less acknowledged part of him loves the way they make his opponents bleed. He adores the shades of crimson that will seep out of an enemy when brazed by a sharpened blade and thrives on the sight. He finds longsword too heavy for his tastes, so he duel-wields for balance. He is probably one of the best swordsmen you will ever encounter. On a lesser scale, he is also a talented poet and singer, although his distant and imposing regal exterior wouldn't suggest it.
f l a w s. || He can not stand areas with too much light, since his eyes are both sensitive and unadjusted to it. He finds it difficult to trust and socialize, which often makes potential allies turn away due to an awkward atmosphere. Aurum has a strong hatred towards darkness and often requires some sort of comforting warmth or light to be nearby for him to sleep. Darkness and cold remind him too much of his life in the other world.
t i m e. || He has just arrived. [parts of the form are written in content to how he reacts and whatnot to his appearance, for example, which I plan on staying faithful to when role-playing]
