Clara walked towards the carriages, alongside Titanus. Thankfully, Hawkes had released him temporarily from the ropes, but her wand was pointed at his face. Watching with widened eyes, Clara took a small step away from the pair. "We should move along to the carriages now, right, Professor Hawkes? Titanus'll go straight to the headmistress when we arrive." she said respectfully, in a tone she seldom used with teachers. Somehow, she knew that Hawkes was usually pleasant enough, but she might just hold a grudge against the Slytherin boy. Giving the Muggle Studies teacher a slight nod and a faint, false smile, Clara gently tugged at Titanus's hand and began to drag him along before she could stop them. The carriages rested a little way off, the ones that they always got up to the school. But now.. instead of being drawn by nothing and moving on their own, great skeletal horses with sweeping wings guided the carriages. Her jaw dropped, because these.. these were Thestrals. She'd been so annoyed to learn in Care of Magical Creatures that they could only be seen by people who had seen death. And then a great blow struck her heart, and she registered that she'd seen people die today. Her stomach churned uneasily, her grip around Titus's wrist tightening as she pulled him up into one of the few empty carriages. She couldn't bear to look at those strange creatures, despite her curiosity about them. Sitting down, she took a long moment to get her wits about her, her head slowly ducking into her hands. Several seconds later, she looked up again and offered Titus a vague smile. "You should go to a proper healer when we get there. My healing skills aren't exactly.. advanced." she shrugged, but she felt distracted, and her gaze turned to the window. Another Thestral stood patiently by the next carriage. She swallowed sharply and tried to distract her mind from the matter of death.
