The bright Arizona sun spread tingles of warmth across Clara's near-olive toned skin as she sat on the bench a couple blocks away from the school. She closed her brilliant eyes trying to take in and enjoy this moment, a moment she often did not get. A buzz and a shrill screech coming from her pocket had her clenching her teeth and groaning in annoyance. 'Way to ruin a peaceful moment.' She thought bitterly. She yanked her annoying piece of technology out of her pocket and flipped it open seeing that it was "the parents"

"What is it?"

"Why aren't you in the school?"

She let out a mix between a scoff and a bitter chuckle,

"I knew you guys were around here somewhere. Besides, I was debating, should I get there early while no one will notice because not even a tenth of the student body will be there? Or arrive just a few moments before or as the bell rings to allow everyone to see the new exhibit, the newbie?"

Clara knew she was pushing them, but that was perfectly fine, she didn't care, especially after all of the years they have pushed her.

"Look, we don't care, do whatever you want."

At this she held the phone in front of her and let out a blasting, mocking laugh, then bringing the phone to her ear again, 

"Since when have you guys ever allowed me to do what I want to do?" She paused, smirking to herself, "Besides, aren't you guys all about entrances?" She then began with an innocent, mocking tone, "I only want to be a good, obedient, little girl for you guys."

"Listen Clara, just get your butt in the school and do as you've been instructed."

With that, they hung up. She wanted to scream then cry. It is unimaginable how much Clara wanted to just run from it all, the world, this crude life of hers, everything, anything, everyone and anyone. She closed her eyes again, took a deep breath, and then exhaled, opening her eyes. She adjusted her glasses, stood up, adjusted her large sweater, and began swiftly walking towards her newest assignment...

Kelly, like so many students, had barely the motivation to go to school. In fact, when her elder sister opened the curtains, the most she did was groan and roll over. Oh, it was such a tedious life. Getting up proved a chore, almost as much as going to sleep did. The air left her lungs abruptly as Bowie, her shepherd pup, was thrown onto her stomach, insisting on licking the brunette half to death. She pushed his head away, even has he persistantly attempted to continue his barrage of kisses. "No," she moaned drearily. "Go away..." Even her muffled objections didn't seem to have much effort in them. Her sibling, Irene glared teasingly, hands on her hips as she stared at her little sister's form. She scoffed, wondering how on earth they could possibly be related. "Get up, you lazy lump. The day is upon us and you have school to attend. How are you meant to make friends if you stay in bed all day? The answer to that is you won't. You will grow old and become a smelly cat lady with no loving husband at your side to serve your every wim." Quite satistifed with her lecture on how to be a social butterfly, she nodded dutifully and returned her attention to Kelly to find her curled up in her blankets, using Bowie like a teddy bear in her arms. She glared. Traitor. Sighing, she got her phone from her pocket. She didn't want to resort to this but...She opened one of her apps and turned the device to full volume before holding it to Kelly's ear and as the airhorn blew, the girl shot out of bed, cursing up a storm and complaining about disrespect for beauty sleep in which Irene retorted with a comment on how there was no hope left for Kel's appearance and all she could do to get through life was work at her intelligence. Kelly glanced towards her digital clock and made a sound in the back of her throat akin to that of a distressed whalecat. There was no way she was going make it at the rate she was going! She wasn't exactly fond of school but that didn't mean she wanted detention!

She shoved Irene out of the door and hopped into a pair of jeans and a tank, topped with a light jacket in her attempts to look somewhat presentable. She didn't even have time for a shower, god forbid. Her hair, although a catastrophic mess most mornings, seemed the only thing in her favour as she combed it over with little trouble. Her father had already made everyone breakfast, thank God, so with a rushed, "Goodmorninggoodbye!" She swiped a piece of toast and an apple, gathered her stuff and careened out the door. It must've been some kind of record as she ducked into her car and started the engine, pulling out onto the road with about as much finesse and elegance as an elephant in a running race - fast, clumsy and dangerous. Her radio, saved with several P!nk, Aerosmith and other miscellaneous rock discs blared through the speakers. It was only when she had about five kilometres to go did she slow down at all. In all honesty it was any relief that she hadn't been fined for speeding yet.

Finally, she came to the school carpark. It was difficult to find an empty one to park her Commodore, but luckily she managed. Hair in a disarray, clothes unironed and a scowl marring her features, she stepped out of the vehicle to face another school day. Granted, no kid in their right mind enjoyed school, but at least they had the friends to help them through it. Kelly, on the other hand, had only one, Alyce. Not that she didn't like that one. Quite the contrary. Kel was just afraid by the idea that that friend would leave her and she'd become a bitter old cat lady like her sister said. Still with a good several minutes before the bell, she all but marched into school and jammed her things into her locker.

Alyce, unlike almost every single other high school student out there, was up quite early. Just before six a.m. in fact, before the sun rose to greet the earth, Alyce was preparing things. Her mother had actually come home quietly enough last night that it hadn’t woken her, so Alyce was now waking her mother and forcing her to sleepily walk to bed. She set a glass of orange juice, with ice, by her mother’s bedside for when she woke up. Then, Alyce sent herself to the second morning task: cooking. She ravaged the fridge and managed to find the jackpot of some eggs and ham. While the ham fried on the stove, Alyce washed dishes and tried to clean up the mess of a house she lived in. All this was simply daily routine, and soon- like every day- her younger sister was awoken by the sweet smell of breakfast, and groggily came down.

The two sisters, one sixteen and one having just turned ten, ate their meal; not really talking for the younger one of the two was still half asleep. Alyce questioned Claire about all sorts of things, school, friends, and life in general, and each question was met with a groggy half answer. Once dressed- without any sort of shenanigans as to avoid waking their mother. And eventually, once everyone was dressed and armed with their belongings, the two sisters silently left, Alyce locking the door behind them.

In the fresh morning air, both of them seemed to wake up just a little bit, and they chatted nonchalantly as they walked to the elementary school. It was fairly close, simply a few blocks away. “Don’t you want a hug?” Alyce had called out teasingly as her sister fled her company without so much as a goodbye once she spotted her friends. Alyce changed directions and began walking towards high school. She glanced at her cell phone and realized she only had ten minutes. “Dang flabbit!” She cursed, very lightly, before setting off into a run.

Once she arrived to the skim of the parking lot, she paused. She was breathing heavily, and her bun had half fallen outdo to her effort. Her chest hurt, from her camera- draped around her neck as it usually was- had been smacking along her breast as she ran. Still, a large smile adorned the girl’s face, and she tried in vain to fix her hair, before giving up and taking it down. Across the parking lot, she spotted a familiar Commodore, but not it’s accompaniment of a familiar scowling face. So Alyce went to her locker, quickly grabbing what she needed, before dashing over towards Kelly’s locker. From the end of the wall, she saw her. “KJ~!” Alyce called out musically, just to annoy the girl, before running the last bit to join her friend.

Many people would question why they were friends, but Alyce never really thought twice about it. Sure, her friend had this annoying habit for insulting the great Wolf Brothers, but otherwise Alyce found her sarcasm humorous, and her style brilliantly defiant. Perhaps opposites attract, or perhaps underneath their smiling and scowling faces they were more similar than people realized.

Kelly loitered around the lockers, seeing as there was nothing else to do. Most of the people she recognised that passed by either disliked her or she disliked them. As it was known, she wasn't exactly one of the most loved of the student body. Her jeans, her hair, her overall looks tended to present a bad first impression. She didn't mind all too much, but it was a little lonely and irritating sometimes. Speaking of socialising, Kelly perked up as she heard her name being called by a familiar voice. A small smile tugged at her lips at the sight of Alyce running to meet her. She rolled her eyes at the nickname. A while ago she would've been mad if someone had called her that, but after spending so much time with Alyce it had slowly become a term of affection. Shaking her head, she ran a hand through her dark hair. "Well, this is a sight,"she mused teasingly. "Since when did you arrive at school after me?" Holding her head high, a smug smirk on her lips, she reached out to ruffle Alyce's hair in hopes to pester the short girl.

She turned her eyes towards the corridor, ignoring any and all students in their bland cliques. Being a generally quiet girl, she had learnt to block out people and their annoying ways a while ago. One she couldn't (and wouldn't) possibly ignore was the little, blonde Alyce, however - the only one in the entire school who dared attempt to befriend the foreboding teenager. She couldn't say she wasn't glad though. She returned her attention towards the mentioned female, searching for a topic to talk about despite her slight social awkwardness. "Anything exciting happen over the weekend?" she asked casually. Ah, thank God for weekends and their easy accessibility in conversations. She shifted on her feet, leaning leisurely against her locker, shooting anyone who dared stare at her an icy glare. She was such a friendly and outgoing person - note the sarcasm. Inhaling deeply, she glanced towards her watch. There couldn't be too much longer until class. Unlike most students, she didn't particularly enjoy loitering around the hallways. She would much rather be working and entertaining her busy mind than being bored out of her wits. With Alyce around, it was a lot more difficult for that to happen, but she didn't particularly enjoy being gawked at either.
