Emily carefully took the sword. Kuvasi started to jump up, and growled, but Emily gave her a stern look and she sat down with an irritable thump. Carefully unwrapping the hilt of the sword, she hesitantly touched it. A small spark of light ran down the sword, quickly enveloping it in light. In surprise, Emily dropped it, and the rag fell off completely. The sword hadn't affected her, but she had affected the sword- or had she? Could it have happened to anyone, she wondered? She carefully picked it up, without the rag. As soon as her skin touched the hilt again, the light started moving again, and started changing colors, with random patterns and lights. There was a light, warm tingling feeling throughout her body, and she felt she could do anything.
"Woah," she murmured, staring at it in awe.
Then she remembered how it had affected the others, and that it could never be hers. She quickly picked up the rag, hurriedly put it over the sword lopsided, and gave it to Arya quickly. "Sorry. I shouldn't have asked, you should give that to Chiron to dispose of," she murmured with a tear in her eye. She was a bit disappointed in herself for the tear- she had never cried in public, and considered herself strong. Now she felt weak, and embarrassed. No use getting her hopes up. She walked stiffly towards her cabin, not giving a backward glance, with pain in her eyes the whole way. Now her reputation would likely be ruined, her name always paired with a sword that would probably be marked evil.
Or could it be a gift from the gods? She thought suddenly. She'd prayed for months to Athena for a new sword, and bugged Chiron about it for ages.
But she pushed away the thoughts- again, there was no use getting her hopes up. She curled up in bed, and listened for a reaction from the others.
