Deryn Cross and Lisette Pearce
"Don't get into any trouble..."
Deryn smiled a little and shook his head, "I'll try not to. But if somehow in the next day a demon attacks me and tortures me, I will be sorely missing cake..."
"I'm going to slap your grinning face when I get a hold of you..." Elizabeth's voice crackled down the phone line. "I love you, stupid face."
"Love you too hurricane..."
"You hang up..." Elizabeth replied like a lovestruck teenager.
Deryn grinned, "Nah you han--" The phone was wrenched from his hand and he frowned at the woman stood next to the desk. "No need for that..." He watched as she slammed the reciever down and cut the phone line off.
"You would have carried on all day." Lisette raised her eyebrows. "I was saving my ears." In Deryn's opinion Lisette looked like she meant buisness - if it wasn't the white pressed shirt and black pencil skirt, it was the six inch high heels that really drove home the message 'I'm going to teach you how to kill'. Deryn looked down at himself, black jeans, flannel shirt, he didn't look like much in comparrison.
Deryn pulled a face and span around a few times in the chair he was sat on. "Fine... " Deryn stretched and then rested his head in his hands as he watched Lisette pace back and forth across his office with a cup of slowly cooling coffee in her hands - she'd been pacing for the past thirty minutes while trying to solve a problem about something... Oh for the life of him, Deryn couldn't either remember or care about what it was Lisette was so worried about. Knowing her, it was probably something to increase productivity by updating the computers, and building a smoothie bar - her ideas were good, they just barely worked.
"Before the phone rang you fell asleep..."
"I was hoping you hadn't noticed..." Deryn mumbled, then frowned as Lisette turned around and stared at him. "Whaaaatt?"
"You was hoping I didn't notice a fully grown man snoring?"
"Ah..." Deryn shrugged a little bit, "You were talking about things..."
"I am going to punch you." Lisette glanced at the window, "Regardless, the students are arriving."
"Great. There's one I want you to meet."
Lisette wasn't exactly thrilled to be pulled down the corridor, even if she understood that the only reason she was being pulled along was because Deryn was excited about his new job. "Deryn. Arm. Release." Lisette glared as Deryn continued dragging her along.
"Sorry..." Deryn let go and ducked as Lisette attempted to hit him. "Look there's someone I'd like you to meet..."
"Who?" Lisette frowned at Deryn as he came to a stop by the school gates and started looking for someone.
Deryn frowned, "Her name is Kage... You'll like her. And I need to talk to Aiden..." Deryn stepped forwards to open the door of one of the cars. "Hi Angela, Kage, Aiden, Lars, Jayne." He waved to each of the teenagers and helped Angela out of the car. "How was summer?"
"Whats are you doing here Deryn?" Jayne asked, frowning at Deryn as she climbed out the car and went to grab her suitcase from the back of the car.
Deryn shrugged a little, "Damien didn't want to be the head teacher any more. Him and his siblings have bought a house in America and moved there. So I'm the head teacher until my dad decides he doesn't want to be councilor any more." He flicked Aiden's forehead, "You should be on the council island anyway. I have a favor to ask. Instead of taking the car, can you take Durendel please? Kage I have someone here to talk to you."
Aiden nodded and kissed Kage's cheek before climbing out of the car. "I'll see you later Kage..." He passed her one of his daggers before trying to spot the dragon.
