The Gate of Stars

Imara walked carefully on the snow. It was a warm day compared to normal. Her footsteps made no noise, and what would have been tracks were covered up by the fallen snow. She brushed some of her black hair out of her face with a finger, blinking away the snowflakes that had fallen on her eyelashes. She had heard report of newcomers, ones that didn't look like any of the other tribes. She held her sword loosely, she always brought it with her. Her eyes shone in the sun an icey blue-gray. There was a mark on her cheekbone, it was blue ( like all the members of her tribe's marks were) and it had a unique spiralling in a leafy pattern. The pupils of her eyes were almost reptilian, and her mouth had an unidentifiable animal- like quality when she smiled, which was most likely due to her slightly elongated jaw ( which wasn't that noticeable, actually) and sharper- than-human canine teeth. She crept up on them, watching from a distance. Her white- and- blue robe blending in with the snow and rocks, giving her camouflage. She watched the group from a distance, not making herself known but not particularly trying to hide. She was simply observing them.

As Basil walked beside the others, she almost doggedly waved her head back and forth, shaggy hair flying, trying not to miss a second of this place. yeah, it was cold, but the stark beauty made her forget about the numbness for a bit. As she turned to look at a close line of trees, she swore she had seen a streak of black. "um, do you know what kind of animals live here?" Basil questioned, as she looked back at the spot where she had seen it, it appeared again. it didnt move, but the shadows of the trees made it hard to pick out. Basil stopped, and stood still, snow beginning to cling to her hair and coat. As she watched the black...something...She began to make out an outline. was it a..person? "guys..look..." Basil said almost quietly, and waved them over, as they had gone slightly ahead.

(Hi new person!)

Imara's robe waved in the wind. She could see a brown- haired girl staring at her, so she decided to make herself known. Imara walked up to them, tightly clinging her sword. The only thing that could be easily seen about her was her black hair. It must've given her away. She wished she was a blonde. "Hello," She started, approaching the small group. It did not seem they understood her. She tried in the different languages of the tribes, then at a last effort to be understood, said the same thing in the ancient language, which seem to receive a response.

As the girl approache them she noticed the way she was dressed and her tattoo on her face. She's really pretty... she turned to the girl and extended her hand in a friendly gesture. "Hi!" When she tried to respond Sam had no idea what she was saying. The different language sounded foreign to her ears and intrigued her. Finally she recognized a word and a smile of recognition flashed across her face. "Are you from a village somewhere around here?"

Imara nodded. The girl in front of her looked much different from normal Amerite girls, or really any girls she knew at all. She was pretty, in a foreign way. "Yes." She was lucky she was skilled in languages, and even so, this one she was out of practice at using. She knew she was probably speaking with a strange accent. “My name is Imara. I'm from a tribe called Amerite... where are you from? Are you cold? Why don't we talk on the way to the Amerite camp.." She said, her grip on the sword loosening just the slightest as she spoke, seeing as the newcomers didn't seem harmful. They all looked different from eachother, too..

She nodded. "We're..." She hesitated. She wasn't sure if she should tell someone she didn't know that they were aliens. "...we're from...really far away. And we'd love to se your village!" As she talked her eyes trailed again to the mark on her face. She loved the intricate patterns and how they flowed together. She wondered if everyone in the village had one.

Imara could tell the girl was withholding important information.. Who was she? "Well alright then! Follow me." Imara walked slowly toward Amerite. She was being very modest when she called it a camp. It was a small city, surrounded by a white cloth lined with blue on top, the colors everyone wore. Although a person's outfit indicated what they were. Somebody like her - a scout, and sometimes a spy- wore a long robe as she did, and often wrapped their hands and feet in cloth. A leader wore a white coat with a plain blue dress or shirt and tight fitting pants underneath. How many blue stripes of cloth sewn onto their coat was a sign of how high a status they were. The city was made of white and blue marble - those were the only colors allowed to be worn or used. The dictator always wears all blue, and so does his or her family. Servants wear loose fitting white pants with longsleeve tops and a white apron with blue trim. People working for the dictator always had a blue tattoo, like her. No two were alike, aside from those of twins. A tattoo on the right check was the equivalent of a family symbol and the year you were born, the month, too. (thus twins, born of the same family and time would have the same symbol.) The neared the city and upon seeing Imara the guards at the gate opened the marble doors for her and her company to enter. As she walked she explained the dress customs she had been thinking about.

Basil looked around at the scenery before her. it was almost like Argentina had thrown up on this city, but in a good way. graceful people, all very similiar in hair and skin color to Imara, walked along the icy marble streets, their smooth silence reminding Basil of a cat. Blue and White seemed to be the onloy colors found in the city. Basil turned as she saw a few men carrying a large vase of water audibly grunting from the effort, wearing almost entirely white, and Woman, who the men bowed to as she passed, wore many blue stripes on her clothes. Basil glanced at Imara as she was explaining some of the dress codes of the city. She saw the blue tattoo she had spoken of, and her eyes widened a bit. " Do you work for the Dictator?" she asked. "is he like, a good dictator, or more of a..." She pulled a finger across her throat, making "chchchh" sounds. " Was there ever a king here? oh oh oh, is there a queen? do dictators even have queens, or are they, like, dictatas? what do you do for the dictator? are you his secretary or more of like his... assassin?" Basil covered her mouth, hoping she hadn't just made herself a target. though it would be sort of cool to die by being killed by aliens, much better than like...drowning in a bathtub.

He inconspicuously smacked his forehead at Basil's lack of tack, but then laughed at himself for being rude. If she hadn't asked those questions first, then I would have. Trust Basil and her endless curiosity to save my butt. He tried not to stare at the people, but they were so cool with their cat-like grace that he couldn't look away, at first. Once he realized that they all looked about the same, he lost interest in the people and started to examine the buildings.
