Alecto reached up and pulled Ran's face closer to his, to kiss her cheek. "You can't do everything, Ran-okaasan. I know you want to, but you can't sometimes. There are just somethings that you just can't do, and others that you shouldn't do. Remember that."

Kouzusa froze, his eyes darting over to where Fredric stood. He released Jett, startled. "I . . . ! Uh . . . . Fredric . . . ." he stammered.

Ran broke into tears right in Alecto's face. "No...No...why am I such a failure!?"

Fredric shook his head. "W...who are you?"

"You're not a failure, Mommy. You are Mommy Ran. And you have your own limitations. Everyone has them. I can't go out and rescue my own mommy because I'm too small. That's a limitation, that no matter how much I wish to change, or deny, I can't." Alecto said gently.

"I . . . . I . . . ." Kouzusa stuttered, trailing off. "I . . . didn't want you to see me . . . us like this . . . ."

Ran clutched Alecto to her chest, weeping like a little baby. She was worried about what would happen. She didn't want anyone to go through so much pain without her doing something to help.

Fredric stepped back a bit. "Who are you!?"
"I-It's Suzaku, Freddy." Jack said, flustered. "See? Suzaku!"
"N-no it's not."

Kouzusa's gaze hardened, and narrowed. "Give it a up, he can tell that it isn't Suzaku." he hissed. He looked straight at Fredric then. "You're right. I'm not Suzaku. I'm part of the being named Suzaku. My name is Kouzusa."

Fredric stood rigid for a good long minute. Jack helped Jett to his feet, pursing his lips together. Finally, Fredric moved.
"How did you get Suzaku to back down?"

"What do you mean?" Kouzusa asked.

Ran felt her tears begin to let up a bit.

"I'm afraid I don't understand." Kouzusa replied, confused, tilting his head to the side slightly.

Alecto wiped Ran's tears away from her face.
