Using her stick to spread out the embers so the fire would die down, Fern then leaned back and looked up at the sky as well. Remembering a song that she had once sung at the Festival of the Moon, she hummed a piece of the tune and then began to sing.
"So cold and distant, far away,
I'll make you mine somehow, one day.
I may be here, far from your light,
only to watch you through the night.
Hear the wolf-song all around,
I never fear, I stand my ground."
There was more, but she couldn't remember it. The whole ballad was twenty-seven pages long, so of course, she had not learned the whole thing. Each elf in her village had a chance to sing a small section, so they could all honor the first full moon of the year. The main point of the ballad was, simply, that the earth and the moon had once been lovers, but the sun had courted the moon and turned her attentions from the earth. The earth was so angry that he banished the moon to the skies, but in doing so he made her not only closer to the sun, but also farther from him. To say the least, he regretted it. The other lines had something in them about rage, volcanoes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters of the sort.
I'm Wildmagic_warrior,
