The medic cut into Susannah's stomach and lifted a huge tumor bigger than both of her hands put together. She put it on the counter and went back to Susannah and said to Sam pointing to the tumor,"If you put a glove on you can poke that."

Lyra looked at Sussanah, worry in her eyes.
Butthead snarled and barked at the dogs that pretty much told them to shut up.

Sam smiled a bit, shook his head. "I'm good," he said, and held onto Sussanah's hand.

Lucky wanted to protest, but she just looked at Shadow and kept quiet.

" Hey, Lucky! You want Sam don't you? " said Ella as she patted Lucky. Rory walked up to Ella. He started to lick her hand as she was bending down to pet Lucky. Ella started patting both of the dogs, but she knew there was still work to do. She looked at the dogs. " I gotta go, buds. See you later!" Rory barked.

Sam smiled a bit, shook his head. "I'm good," he said, and held onto Sussanah's hand.

Lucky whined, she did want Sam. But he was trapped up in the medic tent, with Sussanah. She lay down with her paws in front of her, panting a bit.

Susannah has been stitched up and her tumor in a large jar full of water to preserve it. She took her plastic gloves off, tossing them into a metal trash can and washed a little blood off her wrists. She said,"She should wake up in five minutes." She scratched Moon on the head and rubbed the white doberman's ears with the dog resting her head on the medic's knee.

Sam nodded. "Okay," he said, and his grip remained on Sussanah's hand. He looked at her and sighed. "It's over. You're okay now," he said quietly. The adrenaline rush was slowly starting to leave his body, he was calming down and his leg wasn't bouncing up and down at a million miles an hour.

Lucky stole a glance at Shadow, then continued staring at the medic tent door.

Ella walked off. She needed to go to her room. She wanted to send a letter home to her brother. Ella's dad died. The funeral was last week but Ella couldn't go. She had to stay with everyone, here, in the army. She wanted to know what happened.

Ella started to write,

Is everything OK?
Is mother OK?
Who was there?
How did it happen?

The medic opened the door to let Lucky in. Susannah opened her brown eyes and they filled with confusion. Where was she? Who was she? The medic said,"There are a few side effects. She might not remember anything or just a few things."
