"I will throw you overboard. I will throw you overboard and no-one will care."
After ignoring Faith's barrage of bleary insults for a long while, Corbin finally responded with a few bitter sentences before promptly lapsing into another bout of sullen silence. Whilst his long-time friend (or frenemy) was hunched over the railings of the forsaken ship's rail, the dark-haired teen was pointedly turned away from the sea and trying to forget where he currently was. However, the constant rocking was still breaking through the pretence and generally made him want to curl up in a ball or something equally ridiculous.
Of course, Cloud was the one to blame for this. She had brought this whole thing upon herself, and him in the process, by answering a simple question. Well, it would have been a simple question if it was from anyone else, but when asked by his mother it wasn't so simple.
During one of those gossipy meetings between families, the topic of conversation became the strangely-touchy one of travelling to Unova. Of course, Corbin's mother soon picked up on a minor loophole in the method of travel and produced a seemingly innocent question.
However, this kindness was more of a perk in malicious interest as the woman's more relaxed gossip-orientated smile became slightly broader. Travelling to Unova? That was a long way away; so just exactly how would they be travelling? Despite picking up on this restrained malice immediately, Corbin was sad to see that Cloud was completely oblivious to his mother's antagonism. And so, in response to the news of flying away on Staraptors, plates smashed, tensions rose and suddenly an argument unfolded between mother and daughter.
After watching the sparks fly with an increasing level of boredom, Corbin finally decided to try and stop the heated discussion by producing some sort of unanswerable question that would make Cloud's mother accept the whole deal.
Things didn't work out that way. The dark-haired boy really couldn't remember what he had said, but it was something along the lines of 'Any better ideas?' with added snark. As it turned out, yes, they did have better ideas! What better way to travel to Unova than by boat? It's not like falling from a bird (which could easily swoop down and save whoever actually managed to fall off) was any less of a painful death than drowning slowly whilst a swarm of Sharpedos shredded up the 'Navy Lark''s very existence. Not to mention the fact that the 'Brutal Pokemon' had a taste for humans. Logic.
Sadly, that was an 'invalid argument' since Sharpedo attacks were not only rare, but they were native to Hoenn and rarely found anywhere near Unova. According to his marine biologist of a mother, the most threatening Pokemon they would encounter was an Alomomola which healed injured Pokemon it found and took them back to shore. Asking about Basculin was apparently offensive to a water-professional like herself since they only lived in fresh water. Asking about Carracosta was a disgrace since they were apparently extinct. Asking about Swanna earned an arched eyebrow.
Trying to argue with a water type specialist about water types he knew nothing about was a vain attempt to get out of stepping aboard the Navy Lark. This left Corbin glaring balefully at a crowd of cheerful people and trying to ignore Cloud's onslaught of complaints and scathing comments. As well as the whole sickness thing, but Cloud had it worse than him. Being related to a water Pokemon enthusiast meant a lot of boats like this, and worse, so he was tougher than her apparently.
Good; she deserved everything she got for unknowingly answering an antagonistic answer from a woman skilled in hiding and manipulating her true feelings. Unacceptable. "You can always take the next boat back. Me, I'm getting a flying type as soon as possible. If there is a Pokemon that can fly me places ready-to-pick from-" The boat gave a lurch, and Corbin instantly snapped his mouth shut to let the horrible feeling that came with it pass before carrying on. "-professor Jay's selection thing then I'm getting it."
