They all ate breakfast, and Arabella wandered off to find some grass to weave into a mat for Delaney to ride down on. She found a patch and sat down, working hard as the sun rose, shedding golden light across the field.
Arabella finished up the mat, leaving tassels at the corners for Delaney to hold onto, if she wanted. She rolled up the mat and walked back to the cave. She saw Delaney sitting up at the top, and joined her there for a bit, taking one last look at her forgotten home, or what was left of it, at least.
Arabella didn't answer for a while. "We used to have little picnics and play by the waterfall. Our mom would tell us stories at night, and sing to us when we were scared. Dad never spoke much, but when he laughed...he laughed so loud you could hear it down the street. I used to look up joke after joke, just so I could make him laugh." she replied quietly, staring off into the distance.
Delaney smiled a little. " That sounds great. What I would've given to have good parents." Delaney laid down on the warm rock. " Do you think Nori hates me? I've never tried to be mean, just, bad timing. You know? God, I feel so terrible."
"I know what you mean." Arabella said, thinking back to when Nori had knocked her out of her tree. "I don't think she hates you. She's just been having a rough time lately, with her family, and all this stuff with Cassie and Techy."
