Rose cups his face in her hands. "It matters to me."

Ethan looked at the ground, gripping his arm tightly. "It's something I..." He drifted off, dragging his nails across the surface of his skin, hoping to scratch it off.

Rose glances at his hand and sighs softly. She untangles his fingers from his palm and looks at him, frustration surfacing in her gaze. Her she was helpless when he had just saved her life. She looks at him again, tears welling in her eyes. "Fine don't tell me. I-I-I-I..." She looks at her scarred hands and arms. "Don't deserve to know."

"Rose calm down please." He whispered, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her to him. Her clothes hurt as they rubbed against the marks, but he ignored it. "I'll tell you if you calm down." He whispered, rubbing soothing circles into her back.

Rose takes a deep breath and then laughs softly. "Of all the things you could have told me to calm down about you choose this." She smiles and relaxes as his fingers rubb her back. She smiled and leaned into him.

Once he thought she had calmed down he started. "It's something that happens, it starts up every night, and expands. It's something I'm used to, so please just ignore it." He knew that it was his punishment, it was something that man had done to him, the man that broke his wings. He knew it was because he was a fallen angel, and he figured he deserved it, it was the price he had to pay. God had blessed him with Rose, he would take any pain that they forced upon him, to save her.

Rose tilts her head, tears welling again. She pushed them back and swollows. "You have to be in pain evey night?" She looks at his face and then down at her own arms. "Did he do this to you. The man that broke your wings." She looked at him, trying to keep the mad out of her eyes.

Ethan looked at her, his eyes tracing her face. He simply nodded, letting go to grip his arm again as pain shot through him. "It's my punishment, I deserve it." He whispered.

Rose shook her head with wide eyes. She said feircly, "There is nothing you could have done to deserve this." She stroked his arm, hoping to ease some of the pain.

Ethan bit his lip, her action making it expand, creeping across his chest. He shuddered, backing away slightly, not letting loose the scream of agony he wanted to. He looked at her face, trying to speak. "I wouldn't say that, I could have done things...things I don't remember."
