(@Aberdeen; you can RolePlay with me, if you'd like, with either of my characters. McKay, who is a full Mer rebel is in her territory, I'll post for her below, and I have yet to post with my half Mer, Nathan, so just let me know if you'd like to RP with him. You can start wherever, it doesn't really matter.

@Jalista: Accepted, welcome. :) )

M c K a y.

She rolled her eyes, a soft stream of bubbles escaping in a sigh from her mouth as Miles leaned in and kissed the defender, to suprise her. What had her species come to, kissing the enemy? She didn't follow lazily after him, merely turned and sneered at the dumbfounded and very furious looking defender girl. The razor sharp edges of her shell burned in her hands, and McKay envisioned Sapphire floating away to the black depths of the ocean where the pirhannas feasted, her blood spilling out in a cloud of scarlette....

Shaking her head, McKay snapped out of her thoughts, long enough to realize the girl was chasing after them. McKay had no fear, for what she lacked in brute strength she made up for in speed and cleverness. She shot forward, having to only give her tail and easy flick, and was gliding through Ingo, feeling the power of her beautiful mother surging through her, giving her energy. As the crossed over Defender territory, into the badlands, she turne quickly, floating just out of reach of Sapphire, who was pacing back and forth like a dog before an eletric fence. Ha. Defenders. Too honest for their own good.

The slender, lithe Mer studied her silently for a moment, allowing a lazy grin to spread across her face. "Don't worry, Sapphy, we'll meet again." She snickered, drawing out Sapphire's nickname, and not giving an explanation as to how she knew the other Mer's name. And then, her eyes went dead cold, and her smile vanished. Her look was intense. "And the next time we do, I'll be swimming in your blood, watching your sliced up body sink to the very bottom of Ingo, where even our old leader dares not go, and the pirhannas and other un-namely beasts will strip the flesh from your bones." She bared her teeth, looking almost feral for a wild moment, before relaxing once more. McKay hoped her very visual aid of Sapphire's death would creep the girl out. That usually did the trick. With that said, McKay flicked her tail again, dove deep and far, and was soon out of sight, though perhaps not quite out of mind.

McKay yes, let's face it, has some screws loose. But she was loyal to the Rebels. She would save any one of them, whether she knew them or not, or die trying. She is very protective of them, and the death of the Defender's doesn't bother her in the least. She swims lazily upwards, while at the same time, deeper into Rebel territory. The argument that just occured is already out of her mind, nothing ot worry about. She has other things to fixate on. For now. Eventually, she finds what she has been searching for. A cleft in the sand, that is higher up that the rest of the drop off, nearer to th surface, among a bed of seaweed. McKay sighs, swimming down to it, before flipping onto her back and staring up. One of her favorite places.

And though she is quite comfortable, the water calm, and warm, she feels on edge. AS if someone is close. Or perhaps she's just bored. She hasn't really been talking to any of the other Mer lately, of the Rebels. She misses their companionship. For though she is downright insane and scary to her enemies, she has a totally different personality towards her family. That's because they bring out the true McKay. Because she loves them. She sits upright, just looking around. Perhaps if she calls out to them in Mer, someone will hear her, and come for a talk. She opens her mouth, letting INgo slide in, and the words slide out. She calls, singing underwater in Mer for a long time, before stopping to listen to the still silence. If someone comes, they come. If not, she supposes she can go looking for them herself.
it's been a long time since I've been here. perhaps I'll stay awhile.

Shiloh had waited for him to answer with wide eyes, her gaze fixed on Miles with curiosity. She saw the expression on his face change several times, before he seemed to reluctantly give in, and nod his head. Smiling widely, Shiloh stepped back closer to him, until they were only a few paces apart. "I knew it!" She said, her voice holding several different obvious tones of satisfaction. Finally, she had managed to meet another Mer other than her brother-in-law. As Miles spoke up again, inquiring how she knew about the Mer, Shiloh dipped her head a bit, unsure. She bit her lip, thinking. Ryder hadn't explained much to her about the Mer species, other than he could grow a tail when he went into the water. So Shiloh didn't know a thing about Defenders, Rebels, or Half-Mer. So, she was reluctant to answer Miles' question. What if Ryder hadn't been supposed to expose them to her? What if he would be punished for it? When she looked up at Miles she have a sheepish smile, and just ended up saying: "Oh, my brother-in-law is one of you. He's out there right now, swimming." She raised an eyebrow, hoping that Miles wouldn't inquire about her brother-in-law further. She didn't want to mention Ryder's name. Rolling her eyes, she made a mental note to ask Ryder more about the Mer once they went back home.
Image
Shiloh studied Miles for a few moments, her eyes searching his face for any sign of difference. But, no matter how she tried, she couldn't pinpoint a thing about Miles that would make him any different from her. He was utterly.. Human. Well, other than the tail attatched his torso that had swished across her leg a moment ago. As he edged closer, assuring her that he would harm her, she did her best to keep herself from laughing. But, even then, she cracked a wide grin. "Hurt me? Miles, I'm not afraid of Mer." Not being afraid of them was an understatement. In fact, ever since Ryder had exposed his culture to her a couple years ago, she had longed to be one of them. Free, careless, no rules to follow every second of their lives. Their life sounded like paradise compared to her own. Her step-dad barely let her out of the house unless she had Ryder leading her everywhere. Shiloh could hardly imagine living in the water without over-ruling parents, or rules period. She sighed, shaking her head at Miles. She was most definitely scared of him or the rest of his kind.

Miles stared at the girl in disbelief. It was obvious she knew next to nothing about the Mer, and Ingo, that could get you killed. Shaking his head, he reached out to grab her arm. "Shiloh. I need you to get out of the water. Now." his voice intoned no room for argument as he led her to some flat layering stones, and pushed her towards them.

Gesturing with his head, he raised his eyebrows expectantly. "Obviously, you haven. Been informed of he war between the Mer. Your half-brother, Ryder, hasn't told you some major parts about us, or he simply doesn't know. So let me tell you." his face was dead serious, all friendliness gone. "Some of us, do not like humans. They want you dead, and away from Ingo. Do you follow?" he looked directly into her eyes, then turned away. "Would you like me to tell you more?" his green eyes were deep in thought, and he sighed, waiting for the girl to respond. He didn't want to scare her further, but obviously she had been misinformed of Ingo.

Sapphire Claire Bonadair||19||Mer||Defender||Agitated||Relaxing||Tagged: No one
As the Rebels danced around in their little safe zone she watched them with cold eyes. She stopped dead in front of the girl as she spoke, right on the edge of the border line. 'If she gets any closer I'm tearing her to shreds.' she thought silently, her fingers tracing over the small tooth on her bracelet. The tooth was nothing special, when she was young she had found a baby shark tooth and taken it. The smooth surface of the tooth had some sort of a calming effect on her, reminding her of her mother. The woman with a kind face and soft eyes. Sapphire wasn't moved by the girl's words, this was not her first threat. She had heard so many they didn't phase her any longer. Not once had someone acted on their threat anyways. Blowing air from her nose she turned with a flick of the tail and moved farther into Ingo. Diving deeper and deeper, moving forward a little each time. When she couldn't go any farther she simply swam, going straight. She passed several rock formations before finding a few familiar ones. She stopped, running a hand along the bumpy surface before looking up. Her fury was slowly melting away as the calming waters of Ingo soothed her, but she remained agitated. Looking up she began slowly swimming to the surface, following the side of a rock. As she broke surface she floated beside the rock, it rose only a few inches above the surface. Sapphire scooted herself over and crossed her arms on the top of the rock, her head and arms were out the water. She had herself directed facing the beach, at that point it was empty but she still sat there, watching the waves lap at the sand and drag it backwards.

Cole Daniels Bonadair||18||Half-Mer||Rebel||Happy||Talking/Swimming||Tagged: Hollie
Cole sat silently for a moment, trying to put a face to the name Miles. He couldn't remember ever meeting someone named Miles, well maybe he had. He was never the best with names anyway. When she mentioned that they liked taking Dad's away he flinched. "There's more to it then that." he mumbled softly, kicking at sand. "He had a daughter and well, her mom went missing. I never learned anymore, and the only reason I know that is because I met her." he said quietly, then abruptly changed the topic. "A swim sounds nice. Come on, I bet you haven't even see the best parts of Ingo yet." he said with a laugh. He jogged towards the cool waves and waded in. He shed his shirt, figuring keeping that on shore couldn't be a bad idea. He went in till he was chest deep and dove in he kicked with his legs till he was deep enough and gave way to his mer form. Swimming closer to shore, he slapped the water with his tail. "Come on! he yelled out playfully. Arching his back he let himself go head first into the water and swim around. This had to be the best part, feeling the water pushing past you as you swim. He smiled to himself and swam around before moving farther up. He let his head pop out the water and smiled at her, he motioned for her to come on.

Blue eyes searched the ocean from his viewpoint, straining for signs of the Mer. He felt Ingo reaching in, pulling him closer, closer. Nathan suddenly snaps out of it, as he bangs his forehead against the cafe window. "Ow." He mutters, rubbing the place where it made contact. Ugh, idiot. He should know better by now than to let Ingo pull him in. Swiftly glancing around, he determines quickly that no one saw him, which allows him to relax a little. He always worries someone will see him when Ingo pulls him into a trance. Nathan isn't sure wat he would do if someone found out about the Mer. Someone, with a big mouth, especially. The thought alone makes him cringe. Chewing his lip, Nathan realizes he is focusing too much on Ingo. He turns away from the ocean, his back to it, for the time being. Yes, he loves it there, under the waves. But he has to focus now.

He allows his gaze to drift, unsure where to settle for the time being. He likes it here, in this calm, homey little ocean-view cafe. He found it when he was fifteen, and it became sort of his safe haven. He's been coming here ever since. Called Tidal Waves, it's cute and not widely known. Perfect for a shy, half Mer boy who's just trying to find a place in the world. Ugh, that was one of the things about being Half-Mer, though. He got sucked up in Ingo. The beautiful full Mer, the strange presence, the longing. Oh the longing. The Mer singing their serene songs, pulling him to the sea, always, always. He could hear them now, their voices high and sweet and silent, full of dreams and desires and- NO! No no no no no. Nathan literally smacked himself. He had twisted his bod to stare once more out at sea. Grumbling, he stood up abruptly, sending his chair screeching back. Leaving a couple bucks on the table for tips, he made his way out. It was not the time for Ingo.

Nathan headed near the center of town, to a large square with a fountain. It was nestled directly between a park and the town, and was the only other place that Nathan could become lost in, besides Ingo. It was his music spot. Sitting down on a bench, he unstraps his guitar case from his back, and held it in his lap as he unlatched it and pulled his guitar out. Setting the guitar case in front of him, it was a simple yet obvious gesture for tips. Hey, why not earn a little money off his god given talent. He could always donate it. Nathan strummed the guitar for awhile, merely humming, thinking about what to sing. He was in his Music now, Ingo and everything else distant and fuzzy. Nothing mattered but him and the rhythym. And then he began to sing.

What if I lied,
And told you pigs could fly?
Would you believe me,
Or would you laugh?

And what if I stared,
Would you care?
Would you ignore me,
Or would you stare back?
Would you stare back?

I'm open, to to suggestions.
I'm open, to the notion,
That we, could be.

I'm open to suggestions.
I'm open to the notion,
That we, could be,
Something again.

We used to dance
All night in June.
But now our song is,
Out of tune.

But what if we could,
Do it all over?
What if we,
Gave it another chance?
We gave it another chance?

I'm open, to suggestions.
I'm open, to the notion,
That we, could be...

Oh oh Woah oh.

I'm open, to suggestions.
I'm open to the notion,
That we, could be,
Something again.

What if I lied?
What if I stared?
And what if we danced?
Would you, be there?
Would you be, there?

Nathan finished quietly, his eyes closed, still oblivious to the surrounding world. He smiled lightly. He loved that song. It was slow, sweet, and true. Though originally meant to be played with piano, Nathan had changed it around a bit to work on the guitar.
it's been a long time since I've been here. perhaps I'll stay awhile.

Feeling the boy's fingers grip her arm, Shiloh's eyes widened. This hadn't exactly been the reaction she had expected from him. Without argument, she swam over to the rocks, sitting down across from Miles. "What - why?" She raised her eyebrows, wondering what could be so important that she had to leave the water. As he began to speak, Shiloh sat motionless, her eyes locked on him. As he mentioned Ryder, she blinked at him in surprise. "How did you..?" She didn't have time to finish, as Miles continued. With his first few sentences, about the Mer that weren't too fond of humans, she slid back on her rock, watching him carefully. "You're not that kind of Mer, I hope." She blinked at him cautiously, a bit of fear entering her, disproving her previous statement of not being afraid. As he asked if she followed, she nodded, wanting to hear a bit more of what he had to say.
Image
Shiloh waited on Miles to continue, consumed in her thoughts. Ryder had always described the Mer as these creature of the water who lived carefree, no violence, no pain, no troubles. But, then again, she didn't think that Ryder had ever actually met another Mer. He spent most of his time with her, on land, not in the water with his species. She raised her eyes from where they rested on the water's surface, looking up at Miles, her eyes holding a mixture of confusion, curiosity, and fear. "What kind of war could the Mer possibly be fighting? And who is fighting against who?" She raised her eyebrow, wondering to herself which side Ryder would be on, if he even knew about the war in the first place. "And what do humans have to do with it?"

Hollie listened to his quiet talking and half of her lips turned down into a frown. "You're right." she agreed softly as he had already stood up. She watched as he dove into Ingo and did a flip coming back up sopping wet. She had to admit he looked quite graceful and completely natural in the water. Grinning, she slipped her shirt over her head an her shorts off, leaving her in a simple black bikini. Running forward, until she was knee deep, she dove into the water. A few moments later, she popped up beside Cole, eyes bright scarlet hair streaming with water, her long, lithe and beautiful black tail glistening in the shallow water.

"I love Ingo!" she laughed, blue and golden eyes bright and large against her ivory colored face. She poked Cole in the shoulder. "Betcha ya can't catch me!" she grinned and dove under the surface, hair streaming out behind her. Rolling onto her back to were she was facing the surface, she waved towards Cole and waited for him to follow her.

Miles stopped swim-pacing and sighed, relived to fully have her attention. Whoever this Ryder kid was, he had utterly mis-informed Shiloh. She should not be swimming here, especially so close to Defender territory. They would rip her to shreds with out a second thought. Smiling at her comment of him hopefully not being a Defender, he shook his head. "No, I'm not a Defender. They are the Mer's that would kill you without hesitating. I'm what we Mer's call a rebel. I would rather fight for humans than drown them for fun. Have you ever heard an eerily beautiful song while by he ocean? Something so beautiful you felt drawn to Ingo? That would be a Mer. If you had followed that call and they ended up being a Defender, they would kill you. Period." stopping his pacing Miles looked at her, listening to her next question Miles side and rubbed his temples.

"We're fighting ourselves. It's a war waged against each other." his voice was deadly soft. "Our leader hates humans for some unknown reason. I assume something happened between and a human girl, but I'll probably never know." going back to his pacing Miles looked up at Shiloh again at her last question. "I don't know." his voice was soft. "We've been told that you humans are vile creatures; you poison Ingo and kill our beautiful mother. But there are some of us who choose to look for the light in the darkness. We choose to find the good side of humans. I belong to that side. We call ourselves the Rebels, as I said earlier. Ingo is being raged in war and there is nothing we can do about it, but fight. One day, our leader will return. He will try and find those who have chosen to have children with humans. He will kill them, then go after their children, and kill them. If Ryder is a half-Mer as I assume he is, he will be hunted down. I suggest you repeat this to him." turning slightly, Miles flicked his tail, and approached the rock, and pulled himself up beside Shiloh, dark green tail glistening in the sun. "Shiloh, I don't mean to scare you. Ingo is as peaceful as it is deadly. I hope you only see the good side." he turned to the pretty girl. "Don't trust every Mer you see."

He watched her lazily and laughed as she dove in, having all the grace of a dolphin. That never made sense to other people but it did to him. He had seen dolphins in the wild jumping out the water and going back down, up down, up down. It was an amazing and beautiful thing to watch, it was so smooth. He smiled when she poked him in the shoulder teasingly. "Oh really?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He looked down through the water at her with a grin, it felt good to have someone who wasn't always so uptight about everything going on around them. The feel of the waves moving him around had him grinning like the cheshire cat. Diving under the water he swam down till he was beside her. Poking her arm he chuckled. "Gotcha!" he laughed and moved left, turning his body so that he did a full twist before swimming around. His dark blue scales glinted in the sun's rays as he swam around in a wide circle. It felt great to relax for once, to let loose of his worries for once in his life. Looking over his shoulder at her he smiled, showing a small part of his teeth. He had to admit she looked like she belonged in Ingo, but maybe ever half-mer or mer did. There was a pull that he was sure no one else felt to the waters. How the blue could look so different in so many places, how sometimes you could see all the way down and at others you could barely see three feet. It was so different, either rough or calm. There was always a wave, no matter where you went. He loved how there were rocks jutting out in the most random of places with no care in the world. Cole loved it all, every last bit of this wonderful place.

Ryder slowed in his swimming, just to stand in the water. He closed his eyes, feeling the rush of the waves around him, and smiled. As long as he didn't run into any Defenders, he would be okay. Glancing around from side to side, he wondered if he was in the Rebel's territory, or if he had entered the part of I go that the Defenders claimed as their own. Yes, that's right, Ryder knew all about the war between the Mer, why they were fighting, and how it could danger Shiloh. The only reason he hadn't told her about it, is because he didn't want Mer to seem like a monster to her. He wanted her to picture him, as well as the rest of the Mer, as peaceful creatures, whom she could trust. I mean, it wasn't like he was going to let her meet another Mer besides hisself, right? Thinking of Shiloh alone on the shore, vulnerable, he sighed. He loved Ingo! But, he had a life on land too, with his sister-in-law. The on person above the surface that he cared anything about.Reluctantly shaking his head, he began to swim back toward the shore. He was about ten minutes away.
Image
As Ryder approached the outer edges of Ingo, he emerged on the water's surface, about 60 feet away. He shook the water from his eyes, swishing his tail back and forth a bit to keep his head above water. He raised his hand to his forehead in what looked like the beginnings of a salute, so he could scan the shore. He spotted Shiloh pretty close to shore, resting on some rocks with a boy, around her age. From his distance, he couldn't see Miles' tail, so he thought Shiloh had found an ordinary human boy to chat with. He smiled, rolling her eyes, and diving back underneath the waves. She was fine. He could swim just a bit longer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
Shiloh sat on the rocks, listening to every word that came out of Miles' jaws, trying to take all of it in. As he assured her he wasn't thetype of Mer that would harm her, she smiled, waiting for him to go on. At first, his words confused her. Ingo, Defender, Rebel, Half-Mer. But soon enough, she caught on. Whenever Miles' was speaking about the ocean, the Mer's home, he called it Ingo. Ingo. It was a soft-spoken word. Peaceful and serene, even just by saying it. At his question of a song, Shiloh nodded. "Yea, I have.." She murmured slowly, remembering a day a few weeks ago, when she saw someone swimming far out on the surface of the water, only their head and neck above the water. She had watched them, listening in awe as she heard them begin to sing. Even now, sitting here with Miles, it was as if she could hear it perfectly; the rich notes, swaying tune, slow rythem. It had been amazingly stunning. Beautiful was an understatement. She had actually risen from where she sat, and headed to the shore, but she couldn't manage to spot them again, so she hadn't went in. As she listened to Miles, now, she realized that it had been a smart decision not to enter the water that day.
Image
As Miles continued, speaking of the war between the Mer; Defenders against Rebels, Shiloh realized that the Mer were absolutely nothing like she had come to believe. Ryder had told her that they could go and do as they please; that they were in all peaceful creatures, beautiful in every way. As the boy continued, speaking about humans, Shiloh raised an eyebrow. "Vile creatures?" She repeated, looking over at Miles. Poisoning Ingo? Shiloh shook her head, thinking. "The Mer who believe that humans do nothing but harm to the water obviously haven't spent much time with us. Yes, there are some things that go wrong; oil spills, and what not. But not all humans cause them. There are hundreds of people every day who wake up in the early hours of the morning, just to pick up the trash along the shore. There are people who clean the oceans for a living, just so people like you can have a long and healthy life." She sighed, managing a smile as Miles stated the Mer who try to find the good in humans, or, "light in the darkness" as he put it. She thought for a moment, then glanced over to him. "So, the Mer turned on one another, all because of humans?" She couldn't help but feel a prick of guilt inside her. Before the humans came to Ingo, and before they began interacting with the Mer, the Mer's lives had probably been easier; tranquil, even. As Miles spoke the word again, "Half-Mer", she turned to him, a confused gleam in her eye. "So, what side does Ryder fight for, if any?" She asked him, thinking to herself that she already knew the answer. He would never fight against her, right? Then, as Miles pulled himself up on the rock, the scales of his tail glimmering as the sun shone down, she smiled, not being able to help but stare. "No, it's okay. I mean, better to be afraid than dead, right?" She gave a half-hearted laugh, her eyes still on his tail.

[[ I'm sorry for my late response. Really. I just got back from a vacation. Hopefully I can catch up. Also, I didn't bother reading over three pages of other posts - I'm too lazy. So if there's something I'm missing/should know, let me know and I'll edit this. =) ]]

. Bianca .

The beach was quiet that day. Refined, it was quiet where Bianca was. The eighteen-year-old human was visiting her usual spot to say hello to Mitchell. Naturally, people wondered why a girl that could easily blend in with the rest of the crowd (also known as there was nothing physically different about her when compared to anyone else) would spend hours hidden among the rough rocks that waves crashed on furiously, located on one side of the beach, when there was plenty more space in the pleasant, sandy area. But Bianca didn't care what anyone else thought about her - she would much rather sit and chat with her Mer friend, Mitchell, and it was a good place to keep him hidden.

The two people met when they were much younger. She was eight and he was seven. On one of her weekly trips to the beach with her parents, she'd run off to chase a few seagulls among the rocks that things like clams frequently got stuck between - it was a good feeding ground for the bird. Once there, she'd noticed a pair of blue eyes peering fearfully at her from behind a rock. Back then, Mitch's hair had been a very light, sandy blonde. Over time, it had darkened, but his eyes remained the same light shade and she could easily look at him and see the small boy that she once knew. Despite his fear, he seemed curious, and she managed to lure him out so that she could properly meet him and she stayed there and played with him until her parents called her back. Upon meeting him, her weekly visits promptly became daily.

Since then, Bianca and Mitch had grown to be the best of friends. He would visit every day unless he told her he couldn't or, on the rare occasion, he couldn't sneak away. He'd informed her from the start that it was seriously frowned upon for Mers to communicate with humans and she was always worried that he'd get in trouble, but he seemed fairly unconcerned about it, so she tried to keep her mind from getting occupied by thoughts like that.

Today, Bianca was carrying the bag she normally had with her on her trips to the beach. It was a simple tote, made out of bleached white paper straw that had been crocheted together. The strap was thick and there was no zipper; it simply hung open. She would pick up shells of various sorts and place them in that bag, along with whatever she decided to bring to Mitch that day - she would oftentimes give him some sort of human food for him to try. Today's was a simple hot dog, grilled, covered with every possible ingredient to put on a hot dog, and placed into a ziploc bag. Naturally, that had been one of the first things she'd given him, so it wasn't anything new. Mitch just really liked them.

Stepping to new rocks and hopping over a few, Bianca made her way to a pool that several large rocks made. Because of the small opening between the rocks facing the ocean, the water sloshed into it instead of splashing violently over them. She looked for shells along the way, but most had been dashed on the rocks and were now broken. However, she would get a few beautiful shells in perfect shape sometimes because no other person thought it was worth it to go here and all the shells were left untouched by human hands. Bianca liked to thing of those shells as survivors - the ones that made it through everything the sea could throw at them to get there.

. Mitch .

Mitch, like usual, was waiting in his special pool when Bianca arrived. He and the girl had named it 'The Mer Pool' back when they were much younger, close to when they'd first met, but lately they'd started referring to it as 'our pool'. That was exactly what it was like, actually. As far as he knew, no person ventured that far out into the slippery, treacherous rocks besides Bianca. Over the years, he'd watched her approaching, and he'd been unaware that she was getting better and better at following the same trail without falling until bam, he realized that she was jumping around perfectly and not even looking at her feet. It calmed his nerves that she could do that because he was afraid that one day she might seriously hurt herself and he wouldn't be able to help. Getting to that pool was difficult in itself and he couldn't imagine having to pull himself along those rocks that had cut him more than once to get to her. And once he did, what would he do?

But there never once had been a major incident and he was confident that there never would be. As soon as Bianca came into sight, he sat up a little straight and studied her person, making sure that she hadn't forgotten his hot dog. Of course, he couldn't tell if it was there in her bag, but he could safely assume that as long as she hadn't forgotten that bag that she carried with her to the beach every day, she'd have it. He remembered the day that she got that bag and he grinned to himself. She'd practically run to him, excited to tell him that her father had given it to her. She was ten at the time and hadn't grown to hate him just yet. He'd asked her before why she still had it if she despised him so much and she insisted, perhaps a bit too harshly than was necessary, that it was simply useful, but Mitch had his doubts.

Like Bianca, he had his family issues. They were too strict. He knew tons of people his age, both humans and Mers, that said that just because they were teenagers and wanted to get away, but he was being perfectly reasonable. Everyone agreed with him that his parents were awful, especially Bianca. But then again, that was probably because she didn't see or hear anything good about them, like a few others did - she just heard the rants that he gave her. And he had to admit that there were a few good things about his parents. For one, they hadn't killed him so far. He never told anyone he left Ingo almost every day to visit a human girl, but his parents still didn't like that he was gone so often. They'd punished him before, but had soon given up when they realized that it wasn't doing anything.

Leaning back against one of the rocks, Mitch watched his tail make ripples in the water as it moved up and down involuntarily. It was a very bright green and got lighter as you went down from his hips to the tip of his tail until it was almost transparent at the very end. He'd only seen a few things that were that color green. A few types of fish, certain kinds of artifical colors that humans made, a couple of vegetables, and Bianca's eyes. He found it ironic that his tail and her eyes were almost the exact same color and they'd turned out to be best friends.

Mitch looked up when Bianca approached with a sigh, sitting down on one of the rocks and scooting closer so that she could put her feet in the water like she always did, even when the water was absolutely freezing. He grinned at her, asking, "Did you bring my hot dog?" She rolled her eyes at him, reaching into her bag.
"Naturally, the first thing you think about is food. Typical guy. What if there was something I really wanted to talk about? Like what if I broke up with my boyfriend?" she questioned, unwrapping the falling-apart hot dog and handing it to him. He looked at her blankly.
"You don't have a boyfriend," he told her, his voice sounding firm as if he was prohibiting her from ever having one. And, in a way, that was sort of what he was doing. He loved her like a brother would and he didn't want her getting hurt. She laughed a little, shaking her head at him. "You don't," he informed her, completely straight-faced despite his urge to smile. Bianca reached over and gently punched his shoulder, earning a grin from him.
"Okay, whatever. But seriously, what's up?"
