June 2011.
Bare feet pounded against the floor as the girl’s fearful heart pounded inside her chest. Her black hair billowed out behind her as she raced through the empty corridors, racing away from that thing. She only knew to run. Run and keep running. Run and never stop.
Her shaking hand grasped a door handle to a caretaker’s store cupboard, and she pulled it open, slipping into the pitch black. She pulled the door closed, jamming the door handle shut with the mop that had been propped up next to it. She wrapped her arms around herself, taking a heaving breath that billowed into white clouds of precipitation. It was freezing, so cold that even through adrenaline she could feel its icy touch across her skin.
She picked up a broom in her small delicate hands, before pressing an ear against the door and listening.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
Stepping back from the door, she covered her nose and mouth with her hand, not daring to breath as a shadow obscured the light bleeding in from underneath the door. She knew it knew where she was. It could smell fear. It could smell her thundering heart.
The creature outside slammed itself against the wooden door. The door splintered.

- The story was all over the papers the next morning, edited of course. The public couldn’t find out the truth about magic, they were too naive. The Sorcery Guild, a group of twelve sorcerers and sorceresses, who controlled the ins and outs of sorcery sent a dispatch team to clean up the magic from the school, before setting a lion from a nearby zoo loose in the school grounds to make it look as if the girl had been victim of an unfortunate attack rather than a magical encounter. Summoning demons was banned, and the girl had paid the price – her life.
- However, that girl in the papers only died because she drew the symbols and circles wrong, one small mistake cost her life. Though that doesn’t happen every time... For example, the case of Nathaniel Grey in 1734.
The year of our Lord, 1734.
Nathaniel Grey checked the circles he’d drawn on the ground of his parent’s living room (they were out at a dance) once more, checking they were absolutely perfect. He then stepped inside the smaller of the two circles, the one with a variety of things strewn about the floor inside it. A quick tidy and all the things were gathered in front of him. The next four words differed in order depending on the sorcerer; each person had a different element affiliation, Nathaniel’s happened to be for Earth. “Terra.” Each summoning spell is spoken in Latin, the language closest to the demon’s own. The next word was usually the element that rivalled the sorcerer’s own, “Aeris.” The last two elements are spoken together, “Ignis, Aquae”
When all four elements had been spoken, the pentagram lit up in a silvery light that made Nathaniel close his eyes because of the intensity. “Videri, parere!” The last two words summoned the demon, appear, obey. The demon summoned tended to be at random, unless you had something that would connect you to the demon, like a piece of fabric or jewellery. Nathanial had summoned this demon at random.
There was a crack of lighting, and the demon appeared, a swirling mass of black smoke twisting and turning in mid air within the confines of the larger circle. A demon can take any form it wishes, and this one seemed to like the appearance of the Egyptian Era, appearing the form of a young woman with a dark black tunic that matched her raven hair. Sandals, and the chunky expensive jewellery of an Egyptian queen. “You called?”
Nathaniel raised his eyebrows slightly, “Your name?”
“Who wants to know?” The demon chuckled. It was never a good idea to give your name to a demon unless you had a contract with them so Nathaniel resisted answering that question. “You can call me hm...” She ran her fingers through her hair as she thought. “Fyre Alther.”
“Fyre Alther. I wish to form a contract.”
Fyre raised her eyebrow, “A contract ay-“ She giggled and batted her eyelids. “What kind of contract.”
Nathaniel ignored the batting of eyelids and nodded. “You’ll lend me your powers until my wishes are passed.”
Fyre growled lightly, a silvery mark tattooing it’s self around her neck, and a similar one appearing around Nathanial’s neck. Fyre now had to obey his every order unless it put her life at risk. Of course there was something in there for her too, she got to leech off his emotions for however long the contract was upheld.

- Welcome to the 21st century where the sorceres and sorceresses help the demon hunters in killing demons. A few apprentice demon hunters, sorcerers and sorceresses have taken to finding a demon on Earth and forming a contract or summoning one and forming a contract.
