[[My God you guys post fast. Hope I got everything, sorry if I didn't.
And I hope jack sounds okay. He's not that awesome, he just has a really massive ego. Someone ought to fix that.]]
Jack.
Jack stood in the forest, a short ways off from the school. Pfft, teachers. Who needs them? He was plenty good at fighting on his own, why listen to someone else drone on about what he already knew. As if to try and prove his point, he chucked his spear at a nearby tree trunk.
The spear embedded itself in a trunk. The wrong trunk, maybe a yard or two to the left. Pretty far off his mark. He swore, trudging over to retrieve his weapon. Just a bad shot, of course. Even the greatest warriors have their weaker moments, correct? He reassured himself, once again taking aim. Judging by the various holes in the ground and grazing marks on the trees, these weaker moments were quite a bit more frequent than the young warrior was willing to admit.
Well, practice was boring, anyways. He'd be great in combat, he was sure. He thinks quick on his feet, and unlike most of what he considered to be sad, wimpy recruits, he wasn't going to crack under pressure. No sir. He pitied to poor sap that woukld get in his way.
But to fight, he needed a partner. As much as he truly hated the idea, he quite liked the idea of controlling such a large creature. Flying would be quite an advantage when it comes to fighting, something that foot soldiers would never dream of. Yeah, forget the journey to the mainland. Jack only wanted to show off.
Already frustrated with his practice, he decided to go check out a few of the mounts. There had to be a few good prospects out there, somewhere between the arrogant gryphons and hot headed dragons. He much preferred dragons- they always seemed more... fearsome, well suited to be his steed. Gryphons were quick, but they couldn't match the brute force of the massive reptiles.
He didn't even make it to the stables before a large pegasus mare landed before him. Oh, great. A mage's mount, hardly what he was looking for. But hey, it sure could help to have an ally. Jack was definitely the sort to make enemies quickly. If he could just get the support of this pegasus, well, maybe it would pay off in the long run.
"Mornin'!" he yelled, feigning interest in what he considered to be a useless, dumb creature.

Alaric.
The pegasus looked around, again somewhat dumbfounded by the activity around him but dimly excited at the prospect of finding a partner. Good God, he didn't know where to start!
He heard the soft voice of another human, and turned his massive head to greet her. He nodded dumbly, an odd, horsey smile spreading across his face. "Good morning, miss."
Partners...? Oh, yes, of course! Perhaps the girl was a mage, he knew that he had seen her before at some point. "Yes, of course. I can't wait." he answered, half spreading his wings in an attempt to show his excitement. He felt quite large and out of place- though the gryphon near by wasn't too much smaller and he wasn't a particularly large pegasus. Simply big bones, clumsy, and awkward. Crowds were not his thing. He wanted to please everyone, but it was tough to wrap his head around multiple conversations when he was so easily overwhelmed. But this girl seemed quite friendly, so he gravitated towards her. "what's your name?" he asked, remembering to try and be polite. He also tried to neigh a hasty "good morning" to Mystery but it seemed that she had gone. Whoops.
The pegasus stiffened up as the human passed by him. He didn't much like surprises, even if it only came in the form of someone nudging their way through a crowd. He liked having his personal space.
He shook his head, letting a small dust cloud rise off his fur with the force of the motion. "Hello... Neeka," he said, confusion replacing the fear in his voice. "My name is Alaric," he nickered, now somewhat curious.
And then she left, too. Alaric snorted, turning his attention back to the mage girl.
