Fingering the round sphere between his fingers, grinning broadly, Cody stepped out of the lab into the sunlight. He looked up, lifting a hand to sweep his hair of his face and cast a hasty good-bye over his shoulder. His eyes immediately snapped back to the glossy Pokéball in his hand.
"Go, Growlithe!" he yelled, lifting the Pokéball, pointing it at an invisible foe.
Oops. He had said that a little louder than he had expected. He nervously looked around, hoping that no-one had noticed him acting like a little kid.
Ouch! Something had nipped on the fingers, hard. He jerked around, to see his new pokémon glaring up at him. For a moment he stood there admiring it, the muscles rippling beneath its thick pelt, the way its fur seemed to glow like flame in the sunlight. It was powerful, yet cute. He thought of his mother's Arcanine, and tried to imagine this stocky little thing growing up into something just as noble, graceful and loyal.
He was interrupted from his daydreaming by a few impatient yips. He knelt down to pat it, mumbling, "Hi, little guy." It seemed to be pleased now that it had his full attention, sitting with its eyes closed contentedly and chest puffed out. He leaned back to survey it some more, thinking hard. He already had a few nicknames in mind, and was trying to decide which one suited her best.
"Victory," he said out loud after a few moments, "that's what I'm gonna call you." She opened one eye and let out of a low growl, and he resumed stroking the newly-named Victory, turning his train of thought to a new direction; what he was going to do next.
"We'll go to the Pokémart first," he decided, "and buy some pokéballs." One of the perks of having a companion was that he didn't feel as stupid when he talked to himself. He stood up, searching for the blue building. He had taken a few steps towards it when he realized he was alone. He turned, to see Victory sitting where he had left her.
"Come on, let's go!" he called, but she still sat there, glaring at him stubbornly. Regretfully, he raised the pokéball in his hand, and she vanished with a flash of red light. He was used to his mother's pokémon staying out of their pokéballs, but he supposed he would have to get used to being alone if Victory was going to stubborn.
He entered the Pokémart, and strolled around the store for a while, looking at the shelves, then walked up to the desk. "I'll buy three Pokéballs, please," he said, handing over the money.
{Long first post is long. Bad grammar is bad.
I probably would have written more, but I need to go to bed. x3}
