Serena walked through the dense forest, eyes wide with alert. Her footsteps were muffled by the sodden leaves that were sprawled out around the forest. Usually, she hated it when the forest was wet and humid, but it ment good hunting and easy prey. She was tracking a herd of deer she had seen earlier, and checking her snares on the way. She could hear the quiet nicker of her horse, signaling that the deer were near. She slowed, allowing her horse to catch up before swinging onto her back. She had a black horse that normally blended in with the surrounings better than she did, making it easier for them to be together than apart. She pulled up her cape just above her eyes and leaned down flat against her horse. Her bow was placed on her back along with her quiver full of arrows. The horse moved quietly through the trees for a moment or so before the deer finally came into view. Serena shifted on her horse's bare back so she was able to grab an arrow. As she had taught her horse, she swung her head down and began grazing on whatever she could so Serena could get a clear shot. She placed an arrow on the string and took deep breaths while aiming. She spotted a doe closest to her and took one last breath before releasing the arrow. It wizzed forward, through the herd of deer, before slicing into the deer's eye, making her collapse instantly. Her horse, Destiny, pounded the floor with her powerful hooves, making the deer bound away so Serena could get to her catch. She slid down Destiny's side and rushed forward, leaning down beside the deer. Her trained horse followed quietly, as taught. Serena took a deep breath and lifted the doe high enough so she could place the doe on Destiny's back. Serena swiped her sweaty brow and removed her pack on her back, placing it beside the doe. She started her way home with her horse following directly behind her. Serena had had Destiny ever since she was a foal, and they were practically family. The horse was trained in many ways, mainly in hunting. Destiny knew where to position herself among the herd and how to stand. Serena was proud to call Destiny her horse, and the whole District 12 knew Destiny was her horse. When Serena and Destiny arrived to her cottage, it was like a thousand pounds had been removed from both their shoulders. She removed the items from her horse's neck and patted her muscular shoulder before placing the items on the table she had outside. As usual, Destiny wandered around the clearing, grazing hungrily. Serena just smiled as she cleaned and gutted her catches. She had caught the doe, a rabbit, and a few squirrels. This would last her about two months so she wouldn't have to hunting again for a while. She layed the meat out so it could dry and walked over to Destiny with an apple hidden under the folds of her cape. Destiny, instantly smelling the apple, swung her head against Serena's side eagerly. Serena laughed as her horse hit her massive head against her and revealed the apple. "You have a better nose than most dogs.." She coed as Destiny ate the apple eagerly. Serena climbed up onto Destiny's bare back and layed down so their backs were parellel together. She watched the clouds roll by as Destiny grazed. Serena soon fell into a deep sleep whole utop Destiny. She was aware that if she got spooked Serena would go flying, but she trusted Destiny enough to know that the horse would not do something like that. By the time she woke up, It was noon. She sighed and swung her heads over the side of Destiny and slid down. She patted Destiny's neck and walked into her cottage. It was simple. Two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, and a living/dining room, and a small pantry and closet. She walked to the kitchen and looked over the clothing contained in the closet. She decided it was best to wear something simple, something that wouldnt capture attention. She pulled out a short black dress and pulled her robe over her shoulders. She pulled her hair into a simple side ponytail and pulled on her leather ankle boots. She glanced at herself in the mirror. She wouldn't get much attention, but the people who did look would learn that she wasn't a girls girl. She had a habit of wearing black due to having a black horse, and black looked good with her. She walked outside and placed Destiny's best tack on her. "Even you gotta look good, girl." She said while pulling the straps. She swung into the saddle, giving an experimental bounce. She was covered for meat, but she needed seasoning, blankets, and bread if she was going to survive. She clicked her tongue and Destiny broke into a smooth gallop down the trail to the village. Trees moved like the wind as they made way. Serena loved the feeling of wind in her hair, it made her feel powerful. When they came to the village, she slowed the mare to a steady walk.
