"I hate to tell you this, but I was certainly here first! Who was here to help Erin and the rest of us save the people in that burning building? Huh?! Who saved Toshiro? Who was there for the others supplying the..." he paused, "supplying their needs?!" he spat. It was more of a save, again he'd almost revealed himself in his exclamation. "I may not have powers, but neither do..." he trailed off. No person without powers would bring that up. Not when they weren't the person who knew her first. "You, you are hiding something aren't you?" his argument turned. He brought his finger up right in Kuro's face, right alongside his own face as they were only inches from each other. "You're hiding something," he smirked, "and you let it slip. His voice had lowered to a whisper. "And I'll let you know now, I don't trust you, I never will. Period. I have my eye on you, unfailing and determined, Kuro. You make one false move and you will leave, understood? You don't belong with us."
Erin hadn't noticed that the guys were yelling at each other. She had her back to them and was cradling Ingrid, her entire focus was on cheering the child and finding out what was wrong. She knew of course they were yelling about something and utterly taking Ingrid's focus. Really they were only making things worse. She had drawn from the child that Jake wasn't the cause of her tears. But she had yet to figure out what was wrong. What had happened was clearly not of the physical present state, whatever had frightened her was something she had picked up through her mind-reading. "Ingrid," Erin said softly, gently, "why don't you just mind-send me what you are feeling and/or were feeling?" she suggested. "Only if you know how and feel comfortable doing so, alright? Would that work?" Ingrid nodded, a frown still predominated her features but she seemed perfectly willing.
Without any warning a feeling of utter terror, like in a nightmare flooded over Erin. She almost flailed her arms, trying to cover her face (as much good as that would do) but barely stopped her physical body from doing so. No, I've got to focus and see, she told herself firmly. She seemed to be in some sort of nightmare of someone else. They were asleep but the dream seemed more of a memory than a dream. Although how would Erin know, she had never been in someone else's dream before. The person was strapped to a table, there was a scientist/doctor standing over them, apparently asking some question. Her—the person’s—mind screamed at the same time to answer and not to. She spat out information, the information being false. The satisfied feeling that was transmitted allowed Erin that information. Then suddenly, the dreamer was saying something over and over again. Erin felt like she had been saying it the entire time repeatedly but it had not stood out until this moment. “get me out of here. I can't stand it in here. I need out. I'm trapped. I can't use my power. Scientists and some other people have me." Again and again.
The memory faded. Erin found herself cuddling Ingrid who was crying as she relived the dreamer’s memory over again. “Shhhh, it’s alright,” she murmured, “it’s alright, it was someone else’s dream. It’s okay.” Although her words were soothing, her mind was reeling. One sentence rung in her ears, remaining long after the rest in the forefront of her mind. “I can’t use my power.”
