((Thank you! And yes, we need to know so Zuni and Allen can stalk--erm,
meet Alica XD
But really, it's nice to know where the characters are located so we can describe their surroundings (like weather and climate)
On that note, what season is it?))
˚•Zuni•˚
The neighborhood was encased in a forest, casting dapples upon the ground with their leaves. Squirrels waged a chattering war over an acorn on their battleground of branches. I could even hear people canoeing in a rushing river nearby, paddling without a care in the world. Man, this was such a serene place--
too serene if you asked me. I wouldn't be able to live here without ripping my hair out from the roots and becoming your everyday pyschopath, much like the squirrels above.
Look, I'm not saying it would be the
worst place in the world to settle down and lead a "civilized" life, but where's the fun in that to begin with? Come on! Roaming about this earth, discovering exhilarating new places and encountering arrays of interesting characters,
that's the life. In fact, that's
been my life for only eternity. I couldn't abandon my endless traveling life even if I
wanted to. Having an actual place to call
home, with expected attachments like school, family, and friends you'll see the next day... all that is completely out of the question for Allen and I. Two powerful alchemists whose every footsteps are followed by the Darksiders. Really?! People like us shouldn't even waste their dreams on such stable lives.
My gaze shifted over to Allen. His eyes were fixated on something down the forest-bordered road, looking like a googly-eyed school girl, blushes and all. Hmmm. I had
never before, in the nine years I had known and practically raised him, seen Allen act like this. What...?
I tracked his line of sight, where I spotted this girl crossing the street. I noticed how annoyingly cute the little blondie was and instantly made the connection. A smirk found itself a comfy place of its own on my face. Allen?! With a
crush!?! He didn't even go
ga ga over the most sexy models and stars this country had to offer the time we passed through Hollywood. In fact, he didn't even look twice. But
this girl, this petite girl with her head of blinding-blond had caught my brother's eye.
I narrowed my eyes. Today, they were nearly a red hue, so they must have appeared to be most particularly frightening. I hoped so anyways, because for whatever reason, I wanted nothing more than to rip that idiotic gawk off Allen's face.
I decided to warp him back to reality, away from this
perfect girl I was already beginning to loathe, by incorporating my favorite pastime; singing. He
loved to listen to me sing. There was no way he would still be drooling over that girl as soon as I hit the first note.
"Carry my voice," I filled the lagging morning with music. "Home."
At first, Allen didn't even perk up his ears. Now
that was certainly odd. Like I mentioned before, he enjoyed listening to my voice as much as I loved actually singing.
I ignored this (trying not to clench my teeth) and pressed on. "Outside my window... I hear a sound. Another autumn... comes around."
Finally Allen realized there was more to this world than that girl and gradually returned his eyes to me, although that daze had yet to leave them. He heard a sound alright, just like the song's lyrics had described. And fortunately, that sound was me.
After the last line had left my lips, his eyes like a gold-flecked ocean (his conventional, intelligent eyes, thank God) bore into mine. "That was... beautiful," he said with soft breath. Yet, a question was lingering somewhere around the "that was". "Where in the world do you learn all these songs?"
"I wrote them, of course."
He retorted with that look that read,
Now, what sane person would buy that?"Okay okay," I confessed. "I just, you know, pick up songs, um,
around."
"Around the middle of the woods?
"I..." Hmmm... how
did I know so many songs? I was practically a walking radio, so how exactly did I know all of the songs I sing? We were hobos, surviving mainly in the wilderness, where there were
no songs. I was stumped.
I couldn't stand when I didn't hold the answer to something, so I mumbled, "Just appreciate the darn song please."
Allen smiled. "Don't worry, you don't need to
force me to appreciate your voice. I already enjoy it very much."
Then why did I have to force
you to listen?•˚Allen˚•
For a heartbeat, our gazes had intertwined. This lovely girl, with eyes that were a pair of silver-tinted seas, had stared directly into my own eyes. In that single second, I had lost myself in those twin oceans. My face was ablaze; her beauty was astounding, as well as her eyes that held no secrets. I found that very attractive, like I could actually trust her, even though she was a complete stranger. I had no idea why, but we had a connection.
It wasn't until she was forced to shatter the contact and become swallowed by the forest that I noticed Zuni singing. She had never sang this song before. Its delicate notes resounded throughout the woods, her voice carried by a gentle breeze. Why I hadn't realized she was singing until now?
Zuni's gaze flared with... triumph? As usual, I asked her, dumbfounded, how she managed to aquire all of these songs, and the response sounded more like another question itself than a real answer.
I returned my line of sight to the road once again, staring longingly where the breath-taking girl and I had simatanously laid eyes on each other.
"Let's go to school, Zuni, " I announced, a smile crawling upon my lips. And before she could stop me, I took off in the direction of the girl.
