Kaytan picked up a large, smooth, gracefully carved dark brown bow. He picked up some green arrows and notched one. He drew the string back, aimed, and released. The arrow struck the dummy right in the heart. He quickly loaded another, and aiming carefully, hit the dummy right between where the eyes would be. Smiling slightly, he picked a third arrow and sent it flying into the neck of the dummy. He narrowed his eyes and decided to try a new tactic. He loaded another arrow, but this time tilted the bow sideways so it was horizontal. He released it and hit the dummy a little off-kilter in the stomach. Frowning, he tried again. Getting the hang of shooting from any angle could make a difference in the Games.

Theoden wrote:Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the harp on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the deadwood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?
