"Pali Killeger," I nod, shaking her hand. I was well aware that mud and soot was smeared on my cheeks.

"Did you plant those yourself?" Fleur asked, the skilfully planted flowers drawing her attention. "They're really beautiful." She let go of Pali's hand and as she did, she dropped her sketchbook. "Oops." she said quietly.

I frowned and grabbed the book, handing it to her. "No. My older brother, Kodi, did."

"Oh. I'm sorry." Fleur said, grabbing the sketchbook and shrinking back. He seems upset... she thought. "You must have a good brother." she said very quietly.

"Oh... I-I'm sorry for bothering you..." Fleur said, cradling her sketchbook close to her and for the first time, looking up as she spoke.

"It's fine," I shrug, going back to uprooting weeds.

"Do you want some help?" Fleur asked

Fleur put down her sketchbook near a tree and began uprooting the weeds. Every once and awhile she glanced over at Pali, but quickly resumed her work.
