Fillana gazes at the goods with a look that is slightly awed. Leather goods where everywhere, and wonderfully crafted. "Good morning, sir." Fillana smiles at the man behind the desk. "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions." FIllana starts carefully. He looks and sounds friendly, despite his size. "Yes, I am new, but not travelling through." Fillana walks closer for easier conversation and glances around her. "I'm Fillana Milick, and I came here looking for a new home." She sticks out her hand to introduce herself, hoping that she is making a good impression. She ss really interested in the saddles and other horse equipment, and she would defineatly benefit from a new and sturdy pair of boots, so she promises herself that she will take a look at them, maybe later today. "I'm looking for some work and a place to stay. I have experience with horses, do you know anywhere I can look?" She asks the tanner.

The tanner takes Fillana's hand in his, having to bend down slightly to reach, and gives it a light shake with a smile. "Giles Prescott," he introduces himself. "Glad to make your acquaintance, miss. I'm the tanner and tailor around here - it's a quiet job for the most part, but it keeps me busy." He sits down on the corner of his table, which reduces his height slightly and waves his hand toward the street. "Think of settling down here, then? Well, it's a nice place for it. Work and lodgings, eh? I know that Bronco Cibbic is looking for hands to help with the sheep and gardens, and he's usually willing to let his hired hands stay at the house with the family. He's a kirda, too, so he'd probably be happy to have one of his own there whether you want to work there or not. The Onsteins are always happy to take on some extra help at the orchard, too, so they'd be good for a bit of work, but it might be a bit crowded at their place with all the kids."
Prescott taps his bearded chin thoughtfully as he tries to think of more options. "Hmm, horses. I know Zakhar Meine has a plowing team for his grain fields, but he's got a stablehand already who takes care of them. Then there's Auden - he's the horse trader at the corral, and he might have a few odd jobs needing doing. You'll want to keep an eye on him though, or he'll have you paying him for your work." He gestures toward the mill and says, "The Onstein farm is just on the other side of the mill there, and Bronco's farm is down the south road a short way, right across from Zakhar's. You probably saw the corral when you came in, eh, across the square? Auden's usually lurking around there, so he's easy to find. I hope you find what you're looking for - it's good to get some new faces around here for a change." Prescott claps his hands against his legs and stands again to rearrange some folded clothes that are slightly misaligned on their shelf, lining them up carefully with the edge before turning back to Fillana. "So, anything else I can help you with today?"

((What time of day is it, and what's the season?))
Fillana listens carefully to the information Giles has to offer. Working for Bronco Cibbic could be okay, but she isn't sure if she will want to live in a house with others. She is hoping more for a room above a barn, or a place that she can rent once she gets a job. An orchard could be nice to work at, although she isn't sure how well she could handle having kids around all the time and being crowded. She is more the type of person to want some privacy, but not be completely isolated. It's too bad that Zakhar already has a stablehand, but she could always check anyways, maybe things have changed since Giles last knew. Of course, the job she wants the most is working at the corral with all those horses, but what Giles has to say about the horse trader makes her a bit wary.
Giles gives Fillana directions, which she takes a mental note of to remember. "Thank you." She says, really meaning it. What Fillana got from him will hopefully be helpful, although she won't rely entirely on it. "And it's good to meet new people." She tells him. Fillana glances around the shop and steps towards the boots. She wants a pair. "I don't have much money yet, but for when I have a bit more, what are you asking for these boots?" She points at a pair sitting in front of her.

((It's around maybe 8 or 9 in the morning, and the season is about mid-summer. Because Kite's a very temperate region, there aren't very strong seasonal changes, so it doesn't get too hot in summer or very cold in winter, and there isn't much difference between spring, summer and fall weather.))
Prescott grins and nods. "Glad to help. You'll find most folks around here're friendly enough, and you'll probably be able to pick up odd jobs here and there if you can't find anything for the long-term that's to your liking right away. Always lots to be done in a small town." When Fillana points out the boots, he walks over and picks them up, turning them over. There's no price tag on them, but he appears to have his entire inventory memorized, as he gives a quick hum and says, "These ones are two silver pieces. A bit pricey, maybe, but they're good sturdy boots and they'll last you forever." He taps the side of the boots, which are made of thick but supple leather and have a solid wooden sole. They would definitely hold up under just about any conditions that their wearer might walk across.

Solfeggio’s CharacterFull name: Solomon Launcelot Kellsinger Y. Hatchett (Because of his long and unnecessarily flamboyant name, he -- quite understandably -- prefers to be called Slink)
Species: Human
Age: 20 years old
Description: Slink has the general characteristics of one brought up in a well-to-do family, roughened by the short time he has spent with those from the real world. His skin is a beautiful fair tone, but what would have been 'perfectly handsome' features now bear several scars and rough patches from his journeys. His striking green eyes are a bright emerald, trademark of the Hatchett Clan, although that could do little good of identifying him as something of royal blood, given his now ragged sandy-brown hair, the long strands that refuse to tie back in his ponytail dancing around his chiseled face. His build is considerably lean, maybe lighter than what could be considered healthy; his hands, once perfect and clean and without blemish are rough, calloused, and dirty. He is not one to care for clothing -- surprising, considering what bloodline he came from -- he wears anything comfortable, and if possible, a cape to keep him warm. But then again two years on the road has taught him that beggars can't be choosers.
Personality: Slink is your typical teenager boy fresh into his first year of being a man -- unfortunately, his maturity could do with some catching up. He is a highly cheerful, maybe over-eager character, always jumping first into any new challenge or opportunity without thinking about it first. He is impulsive, is (too) quick to trust, and at his worst, naive (to the point of looking like a complete airhead) -- although this could be owed to his upbringing that has heavily influenced his view on the world. He believes in seeing the good in all people -- or maybe it's all he knows, because it's all he's ever grown up around. He works had and is happy when he can accomplish, and shrugs it off when he doesn't. He has a bit of a one-track mind as well -- he can stick at a job for hours (maybe days or weeks or years, if you let him), and he doesn't do quite a bad job of it either, it's just if he concentrates on something for so long he ends up being utterly absorbed in it unless something else distracts him. He usually works best on a strict schedule -- abrupt changes in plans can throw him off completely and upset him, and he is not the best at coming up with solutions (he could also take days, weeks, or years thinking of a solution). However once he has worked out something he believes is best, he can be flippant about past mistakes, causing him more often than not to commit them again. Slink is already a man at twenty years -- but, in many ways, he is still a boy.
History: For several years, in a remote village, the Hatchett Clan has been held in prestige, the 'upper' of the upper class of their society. Slink never touched poverty as a boy -- he was born into privilege. Because he was the only son of his parents, they treated him very much like a prince, spoiling him with the riches and comforts that a worldly life could possibly offer.
And yet, somehow, it was not enough for him.
Slink grew close to one of his helpers, who was only a teenager, a few years older than him at that time. On one marketing trip, the helper sneaked the young Slink out of his house and took him for, what he felt, was the most amazing day of his life. He got to smell raw meat, not the finely cooked dishes he would have laid out for him at the table; he touched piles of unwashed fruit, not the shiny ones that sat in their fruit bowls at home and looked like porcelain figures. He met and spoke to what he heard his parents call the 'peasants', the 'lower class', and for some reason found their world interesting, fun, freer at least from the restricted life he led.
When his parents found out about his visit to 'the outside world', they fired Slink's helper and set to homeschooling him, but he grew to love schooling outside of the home. Sure, he paid attention in lessons and did fairly well in writing and math, but the world now held much more interest for him. So much more interest, in fact, that one free morning, he decided to have a day in the woods a fair distance from his home. Bring a knife to peel the fruits he carried in his satchel, he lashed out unintentionally after a few short moments of the bushes shuddering near him, making him afraid he was being stalked by a wolf -- he found out only afterwards that he was being stalked by a poor defenseless (and now, forever still) bunny. After that little moment, however, he would spend more and more time wandering out to the woods, honing his new interest in hunting -- sometimes even making his own awkward weapons to use (if at least just sharpened stones, but the dagger always remained), without his parents' knowledge.
One time he went out and, in his wanderings in the woods, came across a stranger. Delighted to meet another 'peasant', he struck up conversation with the stranger and eventually revealed he was longing for a world of adventure. The stranger took advantage of Slink's naivety and took him out of the forest, only to chain him and keep him among the slaves he was planning to sell off. Slink didn't quite understand what he was doing there, but he was way too excited at the prospect of leaving his home, and too amazed at the distances they traveled. He didn't even mind that, at several stops, no one would bother to buy a scrawny, inexperienced-looking slave like him.
He was roughly eighteen years old when the slave trader stopped at a small area just beyond the outskirts of Kite, where he was sold off as a farmhand to a fairly young couple. This couple was more than happy to have someone to boss around, and more often than not that was just how they treated him. Slink could have been easily distressed with his situation, and in fact he had episodes of despair and of being unagreeable the first days he was there -- however he found that as long as he stuck to the tasks being given to him, the couple would spare him the whip and even allow him a bite to eat or a sip of water. For two years he toiled under their iron grip, being as submissive and obedient as possible, doing anything and everything they asked him to with the best of his ability -- and even if he sometimes wouldn't measure to what they wanted, he made sure his next attempts would be better. Still, he realized it was almost like a learning experience for him -- although it wasn't quite the experience he'd hoped to have.
On his twentieth birthday, he decided to give himself his own gift. Taking the plunge into manhood, he threw on what clothes he had, gathered what little things he still owned, and ran. Ran in any direction, it didn't matter where -- he was running to a new adventure.

((Slink is accepted! ^^ His story fits all right - the humans in Rally don't have royalty, but they do have nobles, and slavery via kidnapping has been an issue in some areas, including one (now defunct) slaver route that ran through Kite, so that's accurate to the place.))

Fillana nods. That's sort of what she has been planning, just to find work here or there until something really grabs her attention, somthing that she actually wants to do. She has enough money to live off of for a little while, and is sure she can work for some more here or there. She admires the boots that Giles picks up, and notes the sturdiness, especially of the wooden soles. They would defineately be nice to have, but right now they would sure take a chunk out of her pocket money. That, she isn't too keen on. "They are very well made, even I can tell that, and I know little about this sort of thing." She compliments Giles. "I would love to have a pair like them, or that pair, but for right now I think I will have to leave them." Fillana is reluctant to pass up a pair, the ones she has now are getting worn out, several lines of stitching have started to weaken, and even come apart in one area. The soles were wearing thin too. "Until I can earn some more money, and have a bit of extra, I don't think I can afford them." She says.
((Thanks. That' helpful.))

((He can start off in the central area around where Fillana did if you want - nothing has changed there apart from Fillana is now in the tanner's shop. :3 The description is near the bottom of the last page.))
Prescott looks pleased at Fillana's praise of his wares and nods. "That's just fine - it's not exactly a brisk business I do here, so they'll probably still be here when you come back." He sets the leather boots back in their place, lining them up with the edge of the wooden shelf over them, and leans lightly against the edge of the shelf, being careful not to disturb the clothes hanging off the hooks on its ends. "Was there anything else you were looking for? I'm open all day if you want to try to catch the farmers to ask about work or lodgings."

(( Thanks Atwood n_n Here I go: ))
slink;;His heart is pounding in his chest.
Slink looks around him, not even knowing why he can hear his heart beating so loud. He's terribly frightened; he's all on his own, has a few stolen coins in his purse, and has no idea where he's going to from here. But at the same time, he's excited; the sights, the sounds, the 'new'-ness of everything is simply thrilling for the young man. He once was caged in a house, then caged by rough handlers -- this is the only time he's actually felt free. Free to stare at that weirdly worded sign on the mill's door. Free to laugh at the kids battling each other with sticks. Free to stare (a bit longer than usual) at the pretty young lady outside what seems to be a school.
There's important things to do first, though. He peers down at his right boot, scrunching up his nose at it; the toe is slightly ripped, and it's going to need mending. He looks around, slightly haphazardly and not knowing where to focus; when he sees the tanner's shop, he walks towards it.
And as he reaches the entrance, he trips over the flap of his right boot, and promptly falls forward. "I'm okay!" he cries to no one in particular, spitting dust out from his mouth.
