Not trying to offend anyone, I just think that is being rather greedy and corrupt. Rather like a modern-day politician. (that was meant as a joke, in case anyone took it seriously)

Lol modern day politician =P
But, anyway. The treasure was not stupid by any means, not to Thorin at least. This treasure had more meaning to him than just wealth, it belongs to his family and his ancestors, it was unmercifully taken by a dragon, which killed many friends and other dwarves living in Dale, destroying the entire city in all it's glory. They did nothing to deserve this, they couldn't have seen it coming, so you can only imagine the feelings Thorin was going through. How much this mission and this treasure meant to him, especially with the heart of a Dwarf, because we all know how much they love their treasure, not to mention the power and enchantment a hoard of treasure can cause.
He went through so much to get this treasure. The stress of being responsible for an entire company of Dwarves (and a hobbit), while having to put up with trolls, goblins, wargs, giant spiders and wood elves isn't exactly something you get over the moment you reach the mountain. It would all have built up the meaning this treasure has to him, because he had to go through so much to get to it. Then all because of a misunderstanding from the wood elves and the blind anger of the lake town people, he suddenly finds them demanding a share of this treasure he worked so hard for. Yes, I agree he could have given some to the people of Lake Town, who's town was sacrificed in order to slay Smaug, but that could all have been arranged in a different manner at a different time. The way they approached it was just bad timing which wasn't fully thought through. And the wood elves had no reason to demand a share, other than some greed on behalf of their king. Smaug did not damage anything belonging to them. If anything, they wood elves should be repaying the dwarves.
Yeah he got mad at Bilbo about the Arkenstone. But heck, I would have done too! xD Thorin honestly did not see the good that would come out of this. He was under so much stress, he wasn't capable of seeing that, and I don't blame him. I doubt there are many people who could, if they were in the exact same situation, after going through the exact same circumstances. When making an opinion about a character, always try to step into their shoes. Try to understand their feelings and their situation, it makes it so much more clear whether a character is truly bad, or just in a difficult situation.
Eh... Long reply is long because I have too much free time right now XD

i hated Wormtongue.
I even had a bizarre dream with Wormtongue as the villain in it!
(Want me to share that dream?)
i did like Thorin though. He was very loyal to the other dwarves and i can't blame him for being angry someone stole an almost-sacred heirloom like the Arkenstone.

I think the Sheep dogs would be best.
