... I guess Jackson could have done it the other way around, but LotR is way more popular and read a lot more. Not to mention it's bigger xD

And they didn't know LotR was going to be so popular, so they didn't really have the money to make the Hobbit and risk not being able to make LotR

They also had a really hard time getting the family of Tolkien to let them make the Hobbit into a movie. They didn't want to release the rights for it...

Really? I can't imagine why not. Sure, the movies aren't perfect, but they never are. It was no where NEAR as tragic as the Eragon movie. ((Btw, I don't hate Eragon, there was a time when I actually liked it.))

I can see why they were so protective of it, I wouldn`t sell my life`s work for a few movies in a heartbeat either.....

Methinks I will jump into this conversation, because I have the time. I really don't care that The Hobbit's being made after LotR (I have no thoughtful insight like the rest of you do, so don't ask ). What bugs me is that they're making it into three movies! THREE, for cryin' out loud! Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, and Return of the King were a lot longer, and they didn't split any of them!
