Heart Gold Nuzlocke

Postby JustAMurkrow » Wed Sep 30, 2020 2:44 am

I died at Lance. But it was a fun run while it lasted. You can't win them all.

I've done quite a few Nuzlocke's in the past. I've been itching to do another. I figured I could let anyone interested come along on this journey. The game is Heart Gold.
Nuzlocke will end when I white out, or at Red's battle.

If anyone else feels like posting their own Nuzlocke. Feel free too do so. I'd love to read other challengers stories.

    Nuzlocke Rules
The First encounter of each route is the only Pokemon I am allowed to catch.
-Dupes/Species Clause If my first encounter is a Pokemon I already caught or part of an evolution line that I've already caught. I am allowed to encounter until I find something I haven't caught before.
-Shiny Clause There is a 1/8,192 chance to find a shiny Pokemon. If I am lucky enough to find a shiny, I am allowed to catch it.
-Static/Gift Pokemon Those are free Pokemon.
If a Pokemon faints it is dead and cannot be used any further.
All Pokemon must be named. I will be using CS's name generator for my nicknames.

    Personal Rules
I am only allowed to heal a Pokemon twice in battle. This prevents me from PP stalling and heal spam with items. Healing Moves such as Recover, Wish, Synthesis, etc. are allowed.
Level Limit I am not allowed to level higher than the next Gym Leaders ace Pokemon. This prevents over leveling, and forcing me to use a team instead of relying on one Pokemon to sweep.
This rule does not apply to Pryce, E4, or Kanto Gym Leaders.
Breeding is going to be allowed. I've never added this rule before, so I thought I'd try it.
If I have two Pokemon that can breed, I may breed them. The egg will replace it's mother, unless I breed with Ditto. This rule gives me access to another try at natures, and egg moves.
I know this seems cheap, but the cons are I have to spend money, and I have to train a Pokemon from level 1.
No Legendaries I am not allowed to catch legendary Pokemon. I must battle them. This rule is to just add challenge.

    Team
Meganium - Clyve - Male - Sassy - Overgrow - Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Reflect, Toxic
Raticate - Pinecone - Male - Adamant - Guts - Headbutt, Super Fang, Crunch, Strength
Crobat - Orana - Female - Relaxed - Inner Focus - Fly, Confuse Ray, Poison Fang, Haze
Ampharos - Sandor - Male - Quirky - Static - Thunderbolt, Signal Beam, Light Screen, Thunder Wave
Umbreon - Rasmus - Male - Careful - Synchronize - Faint Attack, Last Resort, Confuse Ray, Toxic
Tentacruel - Bertram - Male - Timid - Clear Body - Surf, Sludge Bomb, Toxic Spikes, Ice Beam]

    Badges
8 -Zephyr, Hive, Plain, Fog, Storm, Mineral, Glacier, Rising
    Level Limit
    50

    Memorable Moments
Clyve's first attack was a critical hit.
Sandor lived at 3HP from Ho-Oh's Fire Blast.
Pinecone lived at 4 HP from a wild Graveler's Explosion.

    Deaths - 3
    1. Starfire, Caterpie, Lv.3. Crit Scratch by a Lv.3 Sentret. I barely knew you.
    2. Rocky, Onix. Low Kick'd by Sudowoodo. You were my wall. You defeated both Falkner and Bugsy on your own. Protected my grass type starter from ever having to face those battles. I've never relied on an Onix more than you. Farewell, my Rock.
    3. Flavius, Slowpoke. Blizzard by Pryce's Piloswine. You were the newest member of the team, but you had so much potential. If only you could've evolved before that Blizzard hit, you may have tanked it.

I started with Chikorita. Restarted three times to get a female. Named her Lullaby. She has a Sassy nature, which I love. On my way to Mr. Pokemon's house. Locke hasn't started yet.Nice elderly man gives me some shoes in Cherrygrove, so now I can run. At Mr.Pokemon's house, Oak gave me a PokeDex and his number. I left and Elm called. A disaster has struck. I must return to him.
Back at Cherrygrove I'm challenged by my now rival. CS has named him Cheddar. Lullaby has leveled to 8 by this point. It's a 3 hit ko. I arrive at Elm's lab, and tell the police my rivals name. they leave, I give Elm an egg. I let my mother save money and leave.Ah, Ethan, teach me to catch a Pokemon. Finally. I have Pokeballs. The Nuzlocke has started.

Route 29, I caught a Pidgey, Lv.2. Named him Whistria. Route 30, caught a Caterpie, Lv.3. Named him Starfire. I attempt to train them up to Lv.6. Starfire dies to a crit Scratch from a level 3 Sentret. He was in green health, almost full, I couldn't have predicted that crit to kill. Well, this is starting out well. Time to train Whistria alone.

I take on the most popular trainer ever. He sends his Top % Rattata, Lv.4. Two hit KO from Whistria. I don't give him my number. A bug catcher reminds me that my Caterpie is dead. Ironically Whistria KO's it with a crit. Grows to Lv.9 and learned Gust. I'm a little too close to that level limit. Which is currently Lv.13

Route 31, I catch a Bellsprout, Lv.3. Named him Caeden. This is good, I could use a Bellsprout. Dark Cave, I catch a Zubat, Lv.3. Nice. Named her Orana. Relaxed nature, I really don't like that, but it'll have to do. I trained them up to Lv.7. I enter Violet City.

I head to the mart and buy some PokeBalls. Then made my way to Sprout Tower. Inside I catch a Rattata, Lv.5. Named him Pinecone. Holy oven mittens! He's Adamant nature, with Guts ability! Could he be more perfect?

I heal at the PokeCenter, then back to Sprout Tower to battle a lot of Sages, and their Bellsprout. I find Cheddar at the top of the tower. "Sure enough, those who lecture how you should be "nice" to Pokemon. They cannot defeat me. All I care about are strong Pokemon. The rest of them don't mean anything to me." then he left. Don't worry Pinecone, we'll teach him one day.

I battle the last Sage of Sprout Tower. Elder Li. Funny name. Orana takes out his Bellsprout. Whistria is put to sleep by his Hoothoot. 4 turns later, wakes up, and KO's with a crit. Good job Whistria. Another Bellsprout. Orana is back out. 5 Astonishes to take it out. We won and got TM70, Flash.

Time to head to the gym.Lullaby is back to the team for this. She'll do no fighting against the flying type trainers. I lead with Pinecone. Two trainers, then training. Pinecone is on par with the 1st trainers Spearow, Lv.9. Pinecone grows to level 10 and learns Bite, I replace Tackle. Whistria takes the lv.7 Pidgey out at lv.10. Falkner is left, so time to train to 13.

Whistria learn Quick Attack. I trained Caeden on Geodudes in Dark Cave. To many Zubats. Ceaden learned Wrap and Sleep Powder. Lullaby learned Synthesis. Orana was the hardest to train up. Luckily I hadn't trained Pinecone yet. So I could do switch training. Dumb move on my part, should've trained Orana first. Luckily Pinecone didn't get past Lv.12. Orana learned Bite. Yes, finally a good move. Pinecone wanted to learn Pursuit. However, I don't see AI trainers switching. Bite is a better option, and Tail Whip could come in handy. I didn't teach Pursuit.

Back in Violet City. I traded Ceaden for Rocky, the Onix. "Yay! I got myself BELLSPROUT! Thanks!" Yeah, sure, no problem kid. Now I have my win card for Falkner. Training Bellsprout was a lot easier than training Onix. Though at Lv.13, Rocky only has 19 Attack. I take his Persin Berry.

"I'm Falkner, the Violet City Pokemon Gym Leader! People say you can clip Flying type Pokemon's wing with a jolt of electricity. I won't allow such insults to bird Pokemon! I'll show you the real power of the magnificent bird Pokemon!"
Sorry Falkner. I have rocks, not electric.
Rocky is out against a level 9 Pidgey. Rock Trow. 1 hit KO. Falkner sends Pidgeotto, Lv.13. "The wind is finally with us!" I doubt that Falkner. Rock Throw. Gust. "We can still fly!" Rock Throw misses, Pidgeotto Roosts to heal to full. Rocky is loafing around. Damn, forgot about that. Rocky Ignored orders, he used Screech. Yes, only one Rock Throw will KO now. Rocky was knocked to 7 HP. I used a potion on him. 5 more turns pass, he hits a Rock Throw. Pidgeotto lives on barely any HP. Rocky ignored orders, and used Screech again. Pidgeotto used Roost, back over half health. Rocky finally hits another Rock Throw and KO's the Pidgeotto. Rocky gains to level 14, wants to learn Rage. I forget Bind.

"For pity's sake! My dad's cherished bird Pokemon. But a defeat is a defeat. All right. Take this official Pokemon League Badge. This one is the Zephyr Badge."
I received the Zephyr badge, and can now use HM Rock Smash outside of battle. I was given TM51, Roost.

After I left the gym, Elm called. He wanted me to take the egg I delivered from Mr. Pokemon. I picked up the egg at the mart. Also collected a super potion that my mother bought. Thanks mom. A kimono woman took notice of my egg. Weird, but okay. I deposit Whistria. I already have Orana as a flying type, and she'll learn Wing Attack soon enough.

I head to Route 32. My first encounter is Mareep, Lv.6. I name him Sandor. I deiced to run around to hatch the egg. It hatched into surprise, Togepi. Named him Septimus. Elm called, he wants to look at Septimus. So back to New Bark. Septimus is Bold nature, okay. Good thing he has Extrasensory. Oh! Serene Grace! I'm so glad he isn't Bold, Hustle.

On the way to Elm's Septimus grew to Lv.4. Elm gave me Everstone, yay. Back to Violet City. Trained a bit. Septimus and Sandor are now Lv.12. Time to take on Route 32, and all it's trainers.

An old an gives me Miracle Seed, I give that to Lullaby of course. Picked up TM09 Bullet Seed. Septimus had a nasty run in with a Goldeen. Kept hitting himself in confusion. I let Sandor handle it. Somehow, a Lv.5 Magikarp lived a Bite from Orana, Lv.13. Embarrassing. I was given a Old Rod at the PokeCenter.
Last trainer of the route, no problems.
Union Cave encounter is a Sandshrew, Lv.6. Named him Skii. Relaxed nature isn't the best, but at least he'll be able to take hits slightly better. I'll leave him in the PC for now. Pinecone swept the trainers with Bite. Not even those rock types stood a chance.

Route 33. Hoppip, Lv.6. Named him Puri. I am very happy to have caught this Hoppip. He will be very important in the near future. Azalea Town. Oh no, Team Rocket is here, and he shoved a guy. Rude. I ignore him and go heal. Puri is Hardy nature, with only Splash and Synthesis. He'll be fun to train later.

Okay, fine. I'll go battle Team Rocket. Only because they're blocking the Gym. Slowpoke Well encounter is, well, a Slowpoke. Level 6. Lullaby missed 4 PoisonPowders and was put to sleep, and then Slowpoke gets a crit on her. 4 turns later she wakes up, and lands the PoisonPowder. I go to Rocky to Harden while the poison chip racks up. I don't want to knock this guy out. O named him Flavius.

Now to fight Team Rocket.
Three Rockets in, Sandor is evolving! I legit forgot what level Mareep evolves at. I'm hyped. Time to fight Executive Proton. I lead with my lowest level, Rocky. Zubat was no problem. Out comes Koffing. Four Rock Throws later, he faints. He did try to Poison Gas once, but missed. Easy battle. Oh, and Rocky grew to Lv.15. Proton left and Kurt will now make me PokeBalls for free.

Gym Trainer time! I can only gain two levels per Pokemon before I hit the level limit. So I gotta make sure those I want to fight Bugsy don't gain too much exp. First trainer puts Rocky to Lv.16. Second trainer gets Septimus to Lv.16. Last two trainers are easy. I leave. That Scyther hits hard, and I want to be on par with it before that Gym battle starts. Though the plan is to wall it with Rocky, like I did with Falkner.

Orana learned Wing Attack. Rocky learned Rock Tomb. That Scyther will suffer this run. He's killed so many Pokemon on various different Lockes I've done, including Quilava's. I have never used Rocky past Falkner before, but man, do I regret that now. Lullaby evolved. I'm not going to use her for this battle, but it's nice to have an even leveled team. Pinecone learned Hyper Fang. Alright, time to fight Bugsy.

"I'm Bugsy! I never lose when it comes to Bug Type Pokemon. My research is going to make me the authority on Bug Type Pokemon! Let me demonstrate what I've learned from my studies."

I lead with Rocky. Bugsy starts right off with Scyther. It U-turns into Metapod, who is OH-KO'd by Rock Tomb. Bugsy send in Scyther again. It Focus Energy's, I Rock Tomb. Take her down past half health, she has a berry that heals her back over half. Rock misses Rock Tomb, and Scyther U-turns into Kakuna. Rocky misses another Rock Tomb, Kakuna uses Poison Sting. Yes, it didn't poison. Rock Tomb'd twice to KO the Kakuna. Rocky leveled to 18, But he is at 17 HP now. I stay in and Rock Tomb. It lands and OH-KO's the Scyther. Another level for Rocky.

"Whoa, amazing! You're an expert on Pokemon! My research isn't complete yet. OK, you win. Take this Badge." I got the Hive Badge from Bugsy, as well as TM89, U-turn. Now for maybe a real fight. Cheddar. I'm pretty sure he leads Zubat. So I'll lead with Septimus.

"Tell me something. Is it true that Team Rocket has returned? What? You beat them? Hah! Quit lying. Are you serious? Then let's see how good you are."
Okay, I was wrong, he leads Gastly. It used Mean Look, but I wasn't going anywhere. Extrasensory OH-KO's Gastly. Quilava is next. I go Rocky. Rock Tomb hits for half health. It wastes it's turn with Leer. Rock Tomb KO's. There's the Zubat. I go Sandor. It's Supersonic missed and I Thundershock, hitting it down to red HP. It used Bite, and Sandor flinched. It lands Supersonic. Sandor gets through the confusion and KO's Zubat.

"I hate the weak. Pokemon, Trainers. It doesn't matter who or what. I hate to see them hanging around. That goes for Team Rocket, too. They think they are bug and tough as long as they are in a group. But get them alone, and theyre weak. I hate them all. You stay out of my way. You won't be an exception if you get in my way."
An exception to what? You just rambled about hating weakness and posed no threats. Well okay, time to heal.

Encounter for Ilex Forest is a Paras, Lv.6. Named her Berbee. I switch out Rocky for Berbee, then head back into the forest. I do the Farfetch'd puzzles, and is given HM01 Cut. That's why I switched Berbee into the team, she learned Cut. I find the Headbutt guy. I teach Pinecone Headbutt over Hyper Fang. Then Lullaby and Sandor, over Tackle.

I head back to Azalea Town. Buy some more PokeBalls, I only had two left. As well as some Super Potions and Net Balls. Then the team Headbutts some trees until we find our Azalea encounter. Which is a Spearow, Lv.8. Named her Pummel. Back to the forest.
I found a shiny Caterpie! Just kidding. I found a Kimono woman. She was lost and Orana helped her find the exit. What a good bat.
Route 34. There are some trainers, but I go for my encounter first. It's a Drowzee, Lv.10. Named him Rivet. I was kinda hoping for Ditto so I could breed, but that's the way the game goes. A trainer had a Bulbasaur, and I am jelly. Just don't let Lullaby know. We meet the Day-care couple, oh, and we got my fake rival's number. I swap Berbee out of my team, we're past that annoying tree. I'll have to think on who to add onto the team. I don't want to rely on Rocky the whole game, but I feel he has earned a spot on the team, and could be useful against Miltank. So I don't know yet.
