What obscure shows/movies do you remember watching as a kid?

Postby Mr Honey Bee » Tue Dec 31, 2019 8:56 pm

I think this goes here.
But what obscure/weird movies or shows do you remember from childhood? Like the stuff no one remembers.
I'll start.

I used to own a VHS tape of a weird educational animal movie. It was like 20 minutes long but I remember really loving it. It had a segment where you would follow this old guy around a zoo and he would like interview workers. I remember some lady feeding a baby tiger. I also remember a section where they dressed up a monkey and sent it to "school." There was also some part that like glorified Grey Hound racing? Remembering it now, it's like really weird and I don't know why I loved it so much.

don't know if it's that obscure but my favourite show in first grade was Puppy in My Pocket: Adventures in Pocketville; basically a weird italian show made to sell toys about some girl that had the power to speak with animals and she could go to this pet dimension and she helped the pets there be teleported to the real world so they could get adopted, also their queen disappeared because she got pushed into a fountain by her jealous sister. it's a mess i don't even know how to describe it.

I used to own so many of the toys! I wasn't aware there was ever any shows!

Oh, I remember really enjoying Sagwa & the bits of Chinese culture it featured! Little Bear and Maisy Mouse were my favorite shows, though u_u They had such a chill vibe.

As for movies... hmm, I'm not sure if they're considered obscure but my younger self spent hours rewatching Oliver & Company (I love me some found family) and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (the animation is delightful !!) on VHS tapes, haha.

We recently managed to find one! We used to watch The Wizard of Oz 1986 anime before school every morning, and recently started watching it again! It seems to hold up too, it's still quite enjoyable ^^

We also grew up with old VHS tapes and bootleg DVDs from our dad, and loved Superhero cartoons so we would watch stuff like Xmen, Superfriends, the Adventures of Superboy, etc. Then Krypto the Superdog was another one of our favorites, and one we also need to rewatch.

Of course we also loved Legion of Superheroes growing up, and that still stands as being one of our favorite cartoons of all time and we still rewatch it somewhat regularly! I wouldn't say it's that obscure though, there's still a fandom that we're very active in!

Then growing up without cable also had a lot of obscure stuff! The Qubo ones especially, there was Jane and the Dragon, Barbar, Piggley Winks, The Busy World of Richard Scarry, Animalia, Jojo's Circus, etc.

Not as obscure but also Dinosaur King and Magi Nation, which we've also been meaning to rewatch.
