no but fr? any song that blows up and becomes so incredibly overplayed that its just obnoxious. it makes me especially sad when its actually a good song. i hold respect for all genres though whether i like them or not. i wish it were like that for everyone lol especially when they disregard an entire genre or several genres because the language like...isnt english :| theres so much variation in everything. just have to be open to trying new things.

edit: its ok to dislike things obviously!!!! just saying you straight up HATE them without giving them a genuine try is dumb to me though.

i hate really old, sad country music. the sounds just irritate me. and it's always the same kind of whiny, low-down feel. to be fair, it's not really the genre because there are country songs I don't mind. it's the memory? my mum had a habit of blaring depressing music like that during mood lows and it was super miserable.

ok i see a lot of people saying they dont like rap and honestly. Kind Of Weird and Not A Great Look

anyway i hate hollywood by jukebox the ghost more than anything it played at my work almost every single day and it drove me insane. i really like a lot of newer indie bands but often times when listening to the suggested songs i get so. turned off because most of them are super self-deprecating. and yeah i dwell a lot in self-depreciating music but god so many songs that are suggested to me are just like "i hate myself and nobody likes me /:" like ok. anything else going on for you? it's just the blandness of everything that's said that bothers me, i guess. use poetry to your advantage.

angst wrote:...I really, like, believe this might be an unpopular opinion: but I hate it when people say blanket statements like 'all pop music is trash' or 'I hate rap.'

Honestly, like, there is a hierarchy of tastes that exists in modern society. If you're upper class, you're more likely to be... well, y'know, be a person who enjoys 'high art' like, say: classical music, or fine arts like ballet. If you're lower or lower middle class, you're more likely to take part in pop culture. For some people living in poverty, rap has served an extremely important purpose to those who listen to it. Maybe not commercialized rap, but then again it's arguable that all music gives way to capitalist necessity and turns 'commercialized' at some point, right?

Pop and rap can still be fun to listen to! Not all music has to be some intense, emotional or even intellectual experience. I'll listen to Ariana Grande and dance if my room if I want to. That doesn't mean I'm not capable of loving all sorts of other genres--anti-pop and anti-rap, folk punk, new wave jazz, movie soundtracks etc. All that means is I'm a person who likes to let go a bit, right? Who likes to take a step back and stop being so critical all the time. Because I'm so tired of being critical.

And hey, don't get me wrong: I think it's important to criticize pop culture. But when people push-off entire genres it appears almost pretentious and elitist by default. Maybe you grew up listening to Mozart, while the kid in the inner city next door will grow-up listening to Kendrick Lamar: someone who's been dubbed the voice of an entire generation of African Americans. Maybe that's not your demographic. And that's okay, too. But it's important to acknowledge that we're all made-up of our social surroundings. Nobody's taste in music has to be better than anyone else's--we don't have to adhere to a hierarchy created years upon years ago. There are so, so many factors that influence what we like!

Anyways. Sorry. Something about this thread has just bothered me, and I wanted to write it down. If this post isn't welcome or this isn't the kind-of discussion that's needed please feel free to delete it!

EDIT: i don't dislike "today's hits"-type songs. i just don't find much appeal *personally* (perhaps because I'm not really "growing up" with it because I've already pretty much grown up already with hits of yesteryears) and I don't enjoy it as much as other things I do really like. I'm not one to dislike and I especially don't hate things; hate is a very strong word and a very strong emotion, and i don't want to be hateful or contribute to hate. I also don't like music elitists who insist music must be deep or personal. It can be, but it can also be fun and people should also be allowed to like things just because. I stopped listening to the radio (by "the radio" i mean "today's hits"-type stations) at about the year 2017. I just couldn't find a certain magic in the music anymore after that point, it became almost alien somehow. Probably just a nostalgia thing. Anyways late 2000s-early/mid 2010s pop my beloved <3 classic rock my beloved <3 random songs from edit/meme compilations by relatively unknown artists spanning all eras and genres my beloveds <3 variety stations are infinitely better than stations that only play what's cool today because you get to discover/remember what was cool back in the day and you also get a bit of today's stuff too, as well as getting exposure to several genres.

Fake country songs that jabber on about trucks and barns and having that painfully fake "country accent." It's just dumb ol' mainstream pop songs in a different coat of paint.

I dislike songs about love, as I think it's kinda overdone... I want to listen to a death metal band sing about gardening, TBH.
