Rest and Protect are very useless to me,
they never work!
I would say a mix of the two.

I personnally like leaf blade, but glare, safe guard and taunt, I don't usually go for. Leaf blade and swords dance are a good combo, though. And yeah, I used to love protect, until I realized that it just slowed the battle down:/. Rest is pretty good if you have the move snore. Not sleep talk though, because half the time, the pokemon uses REST and it fails XP

Actually, Protect is an amazing move is used correctly. In the right party, it can be devastating. However, it isn't a move that one should just throw in. While the purpose is to stall, there should be a reasoning to the stalling, not just stalling for the sake of making the battle longer.

Take a Pokemon with Speed Boost as it's ability. I use a Ninjask with this ability, Protect and Baton Pass. Use Protect that one time, get that speed up, use Baton Pass and pass that speed to your next Pokemon, and if you know how to play around, you can get three Speed Boost up before using that Baton Pass. This will make sure that your next sweeper will be one fast Pokemon, and if the opponent has nothing that can withstand a very strong hit, you may as well take two Pokemon out, if not three with that one Boosted Pokemon.

Of all of the status effects out there, Sleep is the one that will raise a Pokemon's catch rate the most, so I suggest sleeping Zapdos before throwing that Pokeball at it. Other than that, I really have no advice. Legendaries are always a pain to capture, so I just make sure to stock up at the market before going up against them. X3
