Code geass: This anime is about a genius highschool student in an alternate world where Japan is controlled by 'Britannia'. He leads a rebellion against them. This anime has amazing art, a great story, great characters and awesome plot twists. There is a lot more to it, but I won't spoil it for you. Oh, and watch past the first few episodes. The first few episodes might make the anime seem a bit mundane, but once you watch a few episodes it gets REALLY intense.

Death note: The main character for death note is also a genius highschool student. One day he finds a notebook that can kill people if he just writes their names in it. It turns into an intense battle of wits between the worlds greatest detective and himself.

Full metal alchemist: This anime is amazing. It focuses on a character called Edward Elric who wishes to get an artifact called the philosophers stone to return him and his brother to normal after a little... scientific accident. The world is so perfect, the plot twists are just perfect, the characters and music is perfect and it can be incredibly emotional when it wants to be. A great story. Theres 2 variations- brotherhood, which follows the manga and the original which strays off on its own route eventually.

Tokyo ghoul: This anime is about a world where there are monsters called 'ghouls' that kill and eat human flesh. They can eat nothing more. One day, a human is turned into one. its an incredibly intense and emotional anime so far, centering around both of the worlds. You can really relate to both the 'monstrous' ghouls and to the humans.

Hetalia: Incredibly funny anime, give it a watch.

Attack on titan/shingeki no kyojin: Centers around a world where there are massive monsters called titans that kill humans. There seems to be a massive mystery around them. There is a good atmosphere, great action and a wonderful story to this anime. Also... the main character... well, I'm not gonna spoil it for you.

Black butler/kuroshitsuji: This anime centers around a boy who has a (incredibly classy) demon butler and his efforts to get revenge on the people who killed his parents. There is more to it then that- definitely worth a watch.

Ouran high school host club: In this anime, a new girl breaks a vase and must pretend to be a boy in a 'host club' (or pretty much a dating service) to make up for it. Mind, none of the characters know shes a girl at first because she has short hair. For its plot its incredibly light hearted, so don't worry about the whole dating service romance side of it.

Fruits basket: A romance anime. The main character stays in a household made up of people who turn into the animals of the chinese zodiac when hugged.

Sword art online: The first season occurs when a group of people get trapped in a game. If they die in the game then they die in real life.

Vampire knight: There is a secret academy on a school ground that caters to vampires. Lots of emotional stuff in this anime. Worth a look.

Elfen lied: Really gory emotional stuff. pretty good, but its endings a little rushed.

Naruto: A young ninja has the spirit of a demon inside of him. He is training to be a fully pledged ninja.

Bleach: The main character Ichigo can speak to spirits. One day hes given the ability to fight off evil spirits called 'hollows'. its rather complicated to explain, actually- just watch the first episode for clarification. xD

Wolfs rain: I haven't actually seen this anime, but it sounds pretty good.

Dangan ronpa: A bunch of kids get trapped in a school. The only way out is to murder one another. Theres a BUNCH of mystery in this anime, and very good characters.

Corpse party: tortured souls: Based off the game corpse party... although with about 10x more gore. Not for the faint of heart but its good for some people I guess. It all depends, really....

Then some more I haven't seen:

Blue excorcist
Madoka magica
One Piece
Kill la kill
Sailor moon
Dragon Ball z
Vocaloid
Angel beats
cow boy bebop
Pokemon (I HAVE seen a lot of pokemon actually, but I can't be bothered to explain it because everyone knows pokemon. xD)
Deads man wonderland (only seen a few episodes)
Kill la kill (seen the first episode)
Fairy tail
Inuyasha
Samurai deeper (read a few volumes of the manga. read the manga if you're going to, because the anime is pretty bad)
Rosalia +vampire (again, read the manga.)

As far as manga goes, I recommend Pandora Hearts. It's my favorite manga, and it's absolutely AMAZING. I have yet to meet a single person who has read it and disliked it.
