To get YOUR friend code, you must go to your friends list. Once there, go over to where your account is. Under your name, you'll see your FC. To add friends, click the smiley face in the top right corner. To find out what type of FS you have, you'll need a friend to tell you.

When you first start up your 3DS, there's a small orange smiley face on the top part of the bottom screen.
When you click on that, if you don't already have a friend code, it'll give you one.
I believe it'll register your FC as a friend to ensure you don't lose/forget it, but write it down to be safe.
After you get your FC it'll give you the option to register other friends on the bottom screen.

Edit: Missed part 2 of that.
I've got a shiny Eevee, so you'd have to evolve it yourself, but it's something.
