She has flaws, as all good characters do, and she changes significantly as the story goes on without losing her original touch. Besides, I think she had enough crap going on in her life to excuse some of her behavior. And in some of her scenes with Prim, Rue, and (sometimes) Peeta, we get to see the better side of her, instead of the distrustful, rude, messed-up Katniss that comes out when she's confused and angry.
Just my two cents

Oh of course, I understand completley.
She is one of my favorite characters in the "Non-Mary-Sue" sense.
As you just stated, she does get confused and angry, and so she is not all perfect.
Thats partly why I like Collins so much. She has this way of writing that I love, and her characters are developed and fantastic.
Argh. I sound like a child when I wrote the post before this one. Im not sure what came over me. o.o
Anyway, I hope I dont sound bipolar. Im not. I just, lost my sense of taste right there.
Has a stupid moment. Sorry.
(I actually like Katniss. Now I feel like Im just agreeing with you because I want to be part of the group. >.>)
