i just got to thinking, since general helper litters typically come out in june, (say the new staff are chosen in mid/late may) would the newly GHs still be eligible to participate?

GHs litters take quite a while to prepare for - unfortunately we've already done most of the preparation so I think it would be unlikely. However, the new GHs could definitely participate in 2020!

And quick question. I'm pretty familiar with the oekakai, and I've never gotten into the rules, and I know how the site generally looks, but I'm not the best at trading. Will that affect my chances at getting in? The list always confused me a bit, and now that it's void and null, I'm not sure where to value pets.

We all have different areas for expertise. You don't necessarily have to be super knowledgeable about everything, and you can learn stuff on the job too. Of course more experience is preferred, but that's not all there is to an applicant.
