As for what the pups are based on, so far I don't think anyone's heading in the right direction. ;3 The first two pups are the least similar to their sources, to the point that even knowing what they're based on in general wouldn't help much, but it's fun to see what people are speculating on with them, and I'm glad people seem to be liking them so far! ^^ The Count von Count reference really cracked me up - the pup totally does look like him. X3

Oh, oh! My goodness--are they based on the first stanza in America the Beautiful? Spacious skies, amber waves of grain, purple mountain majesties, fruited plains and all that? I thought from the beginning that the brown in the blanket looked like grain--I was just sitting here staring at it and thought "amber waves of grain, in fact".

Also, is there a tiny little smiley face drawn in the blue of the blanket? ..goodness I'm a nerd.

I have a feeling that you might be right on the money :'D Although perhaps not - Seems to fit too perfectly though, most of it. :3
