I don't get why people request messages. I mean, it's great to see your trading partner is friendly, but if they're not and strictly want to do business with you, I don't see how that makes them rude. They're just not making a business relationship a friendship, that's all. It's a choice. I've had a few great trades cancelled because I didn't leave a message.
I'm pretty sure I have something in my rules about a message... I don't know exactly what it says, but I hope it's not as blunt as "LEAVE A MESSAGE OR I'LL CANCEL LOL." XD I don't want to make a friendship with everyone I trade with. I just want people to be polite. I also think it helps if we talk through the trade. You see, if somebody sends me a trade I don't really like (or it isn't fair) and they include a nice message, I'll cancel but explain politely why I don't want to trade. If they can't even be bothered to talk about the trade, why should I even try to negoiate with them?
