Why Do People Hoard?

People always seem to have hoards of seemingly random pets that they..hoard. Do they just really really like the pet and want to have multiple copies of it for themselves?

Short answer, yes. For me it's about a specific design sparking joy, and having many of that same design brings more joy
Some people also do hoards in memoriam of specific people or pets that they have lost in their lives

personally, i just hoard lower-value pets because i particularly like the design or heavily connect to it in some way!

my main hoard is a bunch of omgsc bwolves from november last year, because i connected the design heavily to a specific song i like, and i had fallen in love with the design!
my other hoard is the blue and yellow bwolves of the same litter, and i don't like those designs quite as much, so that hoard is smaller
my third hoard is just random epps kittens! i want a full collection of all of the ones in the game, but i won't turn down doubles, so i've labeled it a hoard :]

and because i'm neurodivergent, i feel like some of it could also be visual stimming, because those designs make me happy and seeing so many is really nice :D

for me it really is just liking a design or connecting to it, i'm sure others have different experiences though!

Haha I always wondered the same thing.
I agree too about the high-value hoards, and it would be nice if more people could have those pets.
I am curious to see all the replies that come out of this.

for me it just makes me happy to have a lot of one/a group of pets! I tend not to keep them long, but it still brings me joy while I have them. it's like collecting buttons or something else small and harmless, there's just something about it ! <3

plus it gives me something to grab from the pound if im late

There's something neat to seeing a page full of one design. Personally not my preference but I do like to sort by various themes.

i personally hoard what i hoard (caterpillars) because i love them and they are underrated! and most of them are omgsc to common so its just for fun!

some people hoard to remember their pets, or to just collect animals and designs they like

I personally hoard pets that are special to me in a way! Or who's designs I find a particular like to. There's some that do and I don't hoard, and some that I hoard because of a different emotional connection.

I know there's people who hoard specific types of pets (Ex; Calico patterned pets) in honor of irl pets.

i hoard all non-binary pets and items simply because i am non-binary. nothing more to it really, lol.
