why dont CS players want horses or rats?

I’m just not a big fan of the rat, pony, horse, or the newer draft horse linearts. However I do like Malk horses, the old tiny Tess horses, unicorns, however you’d describe these horses, and the Nick horses can be cute too since the whole point of them is to look silly. I also rather dislike fennec foxes. I don’t hate any of these animals by far, and I still want to collect them, but they’re just not my favorite.

The sitting cat and Malk linearts are by far my favorite in the game. While the current cat and dog/wolf linearts are fine, Malks and the sitting cats are far nicer looking in my opinion. Even the spiders look nice and I’m terrified of them in real life. As far as pets without much major lineart variation, I’m a huge fan of butterfly wolves.

I agree on the rat lineart looking weirdly realistic and stylized at the same time. And I never got why they don't have pupils 😅

I love rats irl and think they're adorable, but most CS rats just aren't cute to me (the Sketchi design Genba mentioned is one of the few exceptions, and I LOVE the sugar gliders and PPS flying squirrel).

Meanwhile, I'm biased FOR cats (I'm a hardcore cat lover) so any non-feline is automatically lower in desire for me than felines even if I do actually find it cute and want it.

Probably horses is just a matter of designs, since its not as ‘cute’ as any other pets, it dont look too good for most people.

Rats is probably because irl problems or phobia, since rats are seen dirty and gross, and people hates/scared of them

I don’t dislike any species. The horses though, don’t really look like horses to me. The anatomy is really stiff also,I’d rather see a horse in a gait or in some kind of movement. We kind of get that with the Tess horses,but on a miniature scale not to mention that most of the Tess horses designs are pretty rare. There’s a few other lineart for horses,but have the same problem as the Tess horses which is that most are valuable and the lineart is retired(if it’s the malk one) or rarely used. Dogs can pull off not being in much movement since they are facing forward and perfect for dressing up,but I don’t feel like it really works for horses with the given lineart.

I like the rats personally and while they should be smaller technically,I feel like making it smaller would make it harder to see(at least for some devices like mine) I can barely see the dwarf hamster designs and even the other hamsters (besides the old lineart) as well on my device and they are a nightmare to even try to dress up. Rats,there’s at least a chance for a dress up,but with the others,you have to rely on puny items which is a bit annoying. I do wish that there were more realistic rat designs, there are a few,but if I want a plain old rat with no edits,I’d rather not have to trade for a 2008 pet just to achieve that.

I guess I just don’t really see any kind of “house cat” design working on a lineart that looks bigger than a typical house cat. This might be hypocritical because of what I said about the rat lineart,but the rats actually look like they could be rats to me. I’m not really seeing it with the Normal cat lines. The pps version I feel,looks more cat like than the full grown if you are thinking of a typical cat. The anatomy also,doesn’t really look like the anatomy of many cat breeds. I’d like to see lines altered to work with real cat breeds and so on. Dog lines are often altered to work with designs,even rat lines as well. I feel like it should be done more with cats and horses as well.

I like rats in real life, but while I like CS rat designs, I’m not the biggest fan of the lines. I think it’s the snout that bothers me most, when it’s smoothed out so it looks realistic then I like them more.

As for horses, while I like the lineart, they don’t look as expressive as other pets. Im not such a fan ofthe adult pony lineart because of the pose and proportions, but I like PPS pony lines. I also don’t really like drafts because I feel they need to be posed or have something happening.

I also find I get traded rats and horses less, even if it’s WL, high priority, or a dreamie. I see them for trade a lot however. I don’t know why this happens, anyone else know why?

I like the cat lines, but also don’t. The pose/anatomy of the new cats looks odd, and I’m not too keen on the expression. But, I do like other aspects of the cat lines, like the easy editing allowing for long hair, and the tail. I agree that the sitting lines are better, I’d love to see more use of the sitting cats.

Anyone else wondering why hamsters are popular compared to horses and rats? I like the hamster lines, but they’re hard to see, I have to zoom in. I also see more horse and rat enthusiasts than hamster ones. I guess maybe because they’re cute and you can fit more on a single page?

I agree with other users that lineart should be given a small tweak to make unpopular species more popular.

i know this is veering off topic from the original point of this thread but I 100% agree with this. I love cats in real life and the CS default cat lineart is fine, but there's something about it I'm just not a huge fan of. I feel the same way about most of the CS dogs, which kind of puts me in a difficult spot as those are the two most popular linearts on the site by FAR and if you don't feel like making a dressup on a normal cat or a dog, then you're kind of out of luck.

Regarding the rats and the horses, I love the rat pps lines but the adult rat lines feel a little too silly to me? if that makes sense. the horse lines are beautifully drawn but i feel they have the opposite problem, they are too realistic. I love the original equmagine lines and I think they were a perfect balance between stylized and realistic, even if the reason they were changed was totally valid and it'd cause bigger problems if they were in use today

there are lots of lines on this site I absolutely love = the butterfly wolf lines (collecting them all, haha), both syrian and dwarf hamsters, the new snake lines, eastern and western dragons, unicorns and the pegasus lines. however besides butterfly wolves most of these pets are not released that frequently, so when i'm collecting most pets it's usually for the design and the lineart neither lessens nor improves my opinion of the overall pet

sorry, this kind of turned into a long winded opinion about all of the cs lines in general, overall I think most of them are fine and they are certainly all well drawn, I just think only a few hit that sweet spot between cartoony and realistic and as the site has already produced nearly 14 years' worth of pets, it'd be ridiculous at this point to ask the artists to modify lines that have been used for so long at this point. i can imagine it was already a struggle just to modify all of the horse and pony lines back in 2013-ish, caused controversy among users, and that was almost a decade ago.
