why dont CS players want horses or rats?

I personally would like the rats and horses if their lines were updated. I find the horse lineart to be very stiff looking and the rats to not be the most appealing.

For me it's primarily because they're hard to trade off.
I don't need more pets rotting away in my trade groups.

Look-wise they're fine enough, the horses and ponies are fine imo, I'm just not really a horse girl. But I love rats, the default lineart just doesn't do them justice, it's... kinda boring ngl. Giving them an update with a more dynamic, cute pose would be huge for the rats.

personally i just dont like horses, i think horses are scary and the cs lineart they have is ugly. rats and bats on the other hand i hoard and collect (hoard rats and collect bats respectively) but theyre just not very popular pets

for me personally, im just not a big fan of the horse lines unless they are modified greatly, or have a theme i like looking at those RAD scenecore horses from 2011 and the zombie horses from 2010 wait. those are on the little horse lines. okay yeah i just. i just REALLY dont like the bigger horse lines. they look so.. realistic. like they shouldnt be in this game full of colorful sparkledogs. makes me kind of uncomfortable tbh.

definitely agree with this! they're far too realistic looking compared to all the other species. plus the size comparison to say dogs or cats- way too small.

I don't mind rats though! I just personally don't trade for them because of their low demand. but you can bet I'll adopt the rodents every single month.

I love horses, but I do find the lineart to be...meh? It's not bad, it's beautifully drawn, don't get me wrong, - but as people have said, there's FAR fewer dressup options unless you have a million of something or are super creative. Hats don't fit, there aren't as many objects compatible with their shape - I mean, I have got 385 pages of items, but when you look for items compatible specifically with horses there are only 21 pages, and 2 for foals, but 108 for dogs with 28 for pps pups, so they just aren't as fun to dress up.
The lineart barely gets altered either, for events and such, so you just end up with pages and pages of the same personality-less horse recolored.

As for rats, I love them, but they're a pain to trade, the market is oversaturated with them as they're almost always omcsc-common, people don't like trading them for dogs/cats/horses/pps and when you are missing an outcome, almost no one else is missing what you've got leftover. If I'm missing them from my collection, I hunt them to the ends of the smoothieverse, but I can see why they aren't as popular.

edit: The 2020 & 2017 Halloween events had some awesome horse line alts, but they're few and far between

I actually like and collect all horses (even hoard some outcomes) but like many others have said - I much prefer edited linearts, like the 2011 store Arabians and Clydesdale, 2020 St. Patrick's Day horses, 2017 Valentine's horses, 2014 January wild horses and so on. I also adore the ponies but what I'm not a big fan of is the draft lineart, it's just kind of... clunky.

I do wish we could have multiple horse linearts - I'd love something a bit more fantasy style with a long mane/tail and a wild prancing pose. We do have many different dragons, right?

I simply don't like the linearts and don't collect them for this reason. And even if I started trying to collect them now it would be almost impossible to get them all, since it includes a lot of old, valuable pets.
Another aspect is .. you just can't get rid of them. I have rats and horses in my trade groups that no one has ever wanted, they have been rotting in there for years.
I sometimes try to trade 09 rare horses and rats for recent missed commons to have them finally gone lmao
If I trade one of my rare dogs, malks or whatever for a bad demand species I have effectively gained nothing because

a) I don't collect them, so I traded a pet for trade for another one I am just going to trade away ..
b) no one is ever going to want them lol

i'm less interested in them because i personally feel like they don't match the art style of the rest of the pets. the horses/ponies are way too realistic for my tastes, i can appreciate how well-drawn they are and i do like collecting some of the more grounded designs (like ones with coat patterns/colors that real horses have), but anything super colorful just looks out of place to me. the old horse lines leaned a little more cartoony, and i wish they had kept that aesthetic when they updated the lineart, but alas.

rats are a bit similar, but i think they're just in a bit of an odd middle ground between stylized and realistic, and i'm not a fan of their buck teeth. the rats i choose to collect tend to have major lineart edits, or just lean more realistic, both of which solve my issues with the main art.

overall i think they're both well-drawn, though! they're just not to my personal preferences, so i tend to skip out on collecting most of them.

I really like the horses but I'm not a fan of the rat lineart. I like rats in real life but I just don't really like the look of the smooth rat lines and I also think their smile and the mostly pupil-less eyes make their face look kinda creepy.
