Discussion: Pound Vs. Adoption Centers

Postby Rainyli » Tue Apr 12, 2022 6:09 am

Just curious what other people think about this

The pound's supply has been steadily decreasing for a long time, which leads to fewer/shorter pound openings.

There are also a ton of adoption centers run by users on the forums -- it's a lot of hard work to accept that many trades, I wonder why people don't just send their pets to the official CS pound.

Is it a good thing that the pound's numbers are decreasing? Or is it a problem we need to fix? I want to hear your opinions!

So main purpose of the pound is the redistribute pets from accounts that have been banned/deleted.
So I’d say the shrinking in pets and pound openings is a good things, it means less people getting banned.

There is an option to donate pets, yes. And this is still often used by people who are quitting.

Adoption centers came about to help players get pets, with out the need to rush decisions like in the pound.

I personally prefer adoption centers, even though you have a slimmer chance of very rare pets than the pound, I feel the people running it are better about seeing the pets go to people who appreciate them, where in the pound many people use to get trade fodder.
Note: yes some people use adoption centers to get trade fodder and some center owners do not care, but I’ve noticed many more centers stating that they are not to be used as fodder.

The lost and found opens like twice as often as the pound though :"D

i dont think theyre decreasing, i just think a lot of players who know the game well will get better outcomes from the pound. ive been playing for a while now and was only able to receive 2 rares from the pound openings up until 2020 ish. the discord servers help a lot of people get more rares now that it generates them. i think adoption centers are honestly more new player friendly as the host normally gives to those deserving and not only to hardcore collectors. the pound can just be very tricky now, especially since it closes in about 10-15

The Lost & Found also hasn't been around nearly as long as the Pound, it has a lot of missed time to make up. It hasn't even gotten an event like the Pound did on the 10th anniversary where 200k pets were released over just a few days, so there's gotta be a significant backlog.

i'm interested if you have any numbers for this!! :0 not saying you're wrong, i'm just curious. they definitely feel shorter, but it feels to me like that's because there's 1. more users and 2. those discord servers i've seen people talk about, which ping others when the pound is about to open; and not because there's less pets to go around. i do think it's kinda sad how quickly it empties out nowadays, there's this part in me that's miffed when i refresh after the first 20 seconds and there's only like, 400 pets left out of the original 1200 lol it feels very hectic.

my conspiracy theory is that this is because, from what i've seen, a lot of people trade pets but not as many trade items, so items are less in circulation and thus the lost and found opens more often. i've still managed to snag a pet from the pound 7 times in the last two weeks, which is a good number to me haha
Juliamon makes a good point too, we've had the pound for a lot longer than the lost and found

imo part of it is gratification. it feels good when you can gift people things! when you send your pets to the pound, who knows when they'll get adopted and by whom? you won't know (unless you keep track), and the other user doesn't get to thank you. and like Bridgy1234 said above

it's nice to think that your pets go to someone who will keep and appreciate them like you would appreciate the pets in your collection. additionally, you get to set rules. a user can adopt unlimited times from the pound (just has to wait for when it opens next), but an adoption center can say "hey, every user gets to adopt only once a day/week/month/etc." it's that level of control.
however, i personally feel like adoption centers can get pretty frantic too when they're very active haha. so many auto-cancelled trades....

tbh i havent noticed much change in the pound in the past vs now. granted i got my account in 2015 but still. it opens pretty much as often as i remember it opening 7 years ago. adoption centers are really cool but i honestly prefer the pound, knowing what pets you can get is based off of RNG and just knowing your stuff when it comes to high value pets is exciting to me :)

but i dont really think its a problem either way lol, if a user quitting wants to donate to an adoption center thats understandable since they generally put effort in to make sure pets to go users who actually want them.

if the pounds numbers really are decreasing, its a little disappointing i guess but i think its a totally neutral thing. it doesnt need to be fixed or increased, it just Is
