If you blow the image up you can see where the smile goes up ever so faintly to wards the eye like the rest of the dogs do....not saying it's a mistake just saying I can see it.

I zoomed in and couldn't see anything other than highlights and shadingXD

Correct. They are the spinnerets. Spiders use it to, like you said, create webs. ^_^ Icky icky nasty webs.
